Please be true...

I believe today is the day. He has one week before the league opens to opt out. The league opens March 9 and today is the second. So I think it is by the end of today?

But he could always re-sign for less but more years. I'm sure that would make you very happy. ;)

Someone might ask why would he do that, but remember, we could've cut him. too. It's not like he really is walking away from money. He is breaking up with us before we break up with him. Then, if he goes around and finds that everyone is offering him fewer years or less money, he might want to stay here.

Now says he will stand for the anthem next year. God this guy is a joke. Of course, you want to get signed so let's put that protest on the back burner.

Some people will counter with saying he walked away from 16M to leave, but couldn't we cut him?

Spotrac:

Colin Kaepernick earned $39M of his $114M extension w/ the #49ers from 2014-16.

Yes, the 49ers came out and said recently they were going to cut him and that they might be interested in him at a reduced salary. I am sure when Kaep met with Lynch and Shanahan they made their intentions clear at that time that they were going to cut him because of that salary

That salary is very fair for a starting QB. Let's be honest here. They would have cut him because they don't like his ability at QB for their team.

There is zero QBs signed currently. They are flush with cash. If they thought highly of Kaep believe me they wouldn't have wanted to cut him.

Hopefully, no one signs him and he ends up in the CFL were he has an excuse to kneeling during a national anthem

Kaepernick balled out this year given the crappy o-line and the anemic options at WR, so some team will sign him, or at least should, unless collusion happens, which is pretty damn likely, even if his play doesn't warrant it.

I personally thought the Vikings should have traded for Kaepernick instead of Sam Bradford last year - and probably could have gotten him for a relative steal, too, (compared to a 1st and 4th) when Teddy Two Gloves went down, because no one can deny that Kaepernick can lead a team quite well when he has a good run game to lean on and a stout defense at his back, and Minnesota had both in spades, but then Bradford never would have had the chance to become a better QB than Joe Montana*.

To an extent, maybe. He doesn't fit the mold, but I bet it has less to do with his football ability and more to do with 1) being a social pariah, and 2) his influence on the team last year, getting Eric Reid and others to kneel during the anthem. They aren't gonna have Colin on the team when he could decide on a whim to protest or be a nuisance and fracture the locker room and the fanbase.

He only balled out in the first halves of games. If you just look at the second halves of games it's alarmingly bad.

But does some of that fall on the coaches making half-time adjustments?

Doesn't matter, in any case, looks like Lynch and KS wanted a clean slate.

I'm interested to see what happens with Kap. I think there is a danger for him of going to Tim Tebow route: clearly talented enough to play in the NFL, even to start, but not close to a quality starter, and not worth the headache to keep as a quality backup.
