From a football personality standpoint I love the kid more than probably 97% of the rest of the characters in the league, and I'd love to have almost everything he appears to give you in the locker room and how he can interact with people, but I have never quite thought of him in the same light as most people in, around, and outside of the league do as an on-the-field player.

I'd love to listen to his specific demands and explore the possibility of how creative you could get with him in a deal, but it sounds like if the reports are close to accurate that he'd probably price himself outside of what I'd feel completely comfortable shelling out if I were the one in charge of that.

And remember, he'll already be 29 before the end of this next season.

Adam Schefter:

Playing in California appeals to Josh Norman.

49ers have loads of cap room.

Just saying....

And has already said during his ESPN car wash tour this year that playing for the 49ers, specifically under Chip Kelly, would appeal to him. Whether or not he'd actually (still) feel that way if it somehow lined up more realistically is another story.

Assuming the 49ers even had interest, which to me seems like a pretty big if.

Yeah, my first reaction was, "GO GET HIM!!!" But then I saw he was 28. I figured he was maybe 26. Tough to give big bucks to a CB that age. That's one of the positions where it can be hard to play late into your career....

Joe Person:

8-9 teams have contacted Josh Norman's representatives since Panthers rescinded the tag, per league source.

Niners, with a ton of cap space, among teams that called about Josh Norman, per source. Others incl. Bucs, Steelers, Dolphins.

Panthers now have $32M in cap space. Only Niners ($52.6M), Jaguars ($52.5M) and Browns ($40M) have more.

I would have thought the minute after it happened that the Cowboys would also make some sense but they are right up against the cap so that could be difficult.

Ed Werder:

#Cowboys have two starting CB with no interceptions in calendar year. I could see them pursuing @J_No24 to replace @BCarr39 or @MoClaiborne

Add the Rams and Bears among the teams known, I guess, to be interested.

Jason Cole:

At least 8 teams have expressed interest in ex-#Panthers CB Josh Norman. Among those are #Bucs, #Dolphins, #49ers, #Rams and #Bears.

thats what cap space does for you... appeals to everyone!

this would be post #3 for me, lol, is he someone that can take your defense over the top? His age is a road block for me in terms of big pay and this guy is looking for his first/last big contract.....

idk how to call this one...

Ian Rapoport:

Josh Norman news: The free agent CB is hiring agent Ryan Williams of Athletes First to take lead on his contract. Michael George will co-rep

Agent David Dunn, who represents many 49ers players and Chip Kelly, is the top, or one of, people at Athletes First. My understanding is that Ryan Williams handles a lot of the marketing and endorsement deals for their clients. Was not aware he leads any efforts on any football contracts.

Age is a big deterrent so I could live with or without him because I fear his skills may be on the decline by the time the team is relevant again.

With that said though the team has a ton of cap space with nobody to use it on and they don't hand out trophies for most cap space so I don't have a problem signing him to a lucrative deal (not 16 million lucrative) as long as they structure in a way to bail out of it with little penalty on the backend.

But if you're going to spend big money honestly I would rather work out a deal with the Jets for Wilkerson and give him the money.

I'm kind of 50/50 on this too. Would prefer they go after a younger vet option for the long term. The plus is this move would solidify the backfield for the new regime.

Guess another way to think about it is if this move ended up helping us bring over more viable FA's over the next few years, then it would end up being worth it in the long run.

He just peaked last year, he should be good for another two years. Give him the Kaepernick contract

Return to San Francisco 49ers
