2017-18 CFB SEASON / '18 NFL DRAFT

Post#1 » by NinerSickness » Mon May 1, 2017 4:33 am

Can I get a Sticky all up in this thread?

Here's the first 2018 mock draft I clicked on. Is it a foregone conclusion that Sam Darnold will be the first player taken?

Some are saying Josh Allen. He must be a lot better than the game of his I saw. He was terrible.

Now I remember what game it was. BYU. Yikes.

The one thing that upsets me is that the Niners didn't get a legit', #1 WR this offseason, and I don't think this next WR class is all that good.

Hope a #1 WR hits FA next offseason.

wow, its all defense pretty much in the top 20....

Barkley is definitely on my radar.

LT shouldn't be out of the question either, given QB could be a focal point (if Cousins doesn't happen)

Only one great wide receiver, Christian Kirk. He's the next Odell Beckham Jr. Only one great TE in Mark Andrews, and he compares favorably to Antonio Gates.

You got to admire his size, athleticism, and arm talent. He's playing in a pro style offense too. There's a lot to like about him. I think he's the second best right now behind Darnold. Then comes Rosen and lastly Rudolph.

Furthermore, we all know that there will be that one QB that comes out of nowhere (not a single analyst is speaking of at the moment) and dominates during the season and goes in the top 3 picks. Who will that be in 2018?

Josh Allen is a complete projection at this point just from what he brings from a physical standpoint. Still needs a lot of work, but the the requisites are all there.

Right now it's Sam Darnold, but he's only going to be a rs Soph so there is a strong chance he might not even declare at this point.

Others that will be talked about:

Luke Falk
Josh Rosen (JR)
Lamar Jackson (JR)
Mason Rudolph
Baker Mayfield
Jake Browning (JR)

Lamar is the wildcard here. If he puts it together by becoming a legit pocket passer, then he could easily be the #1 overall pick. The key word here though is "if". He's a tremendous talent, but I'm overly pessimistic to the point of him ever developing that part of his game--being a consistent legit threat inside the pocket (that one season that Vick had with the Eagles where his game seemed to have evolved).

Arden Key - DL - Tigers

LSU junior edge rusher Arden Key tweeted that he will not be sitting out the 2017 season.

Key has been away from the team since mid-February due to what Tigers HC Ed Orgeron referred to as "personal reasons." Per Key's father, the LSU star is not dealing with any sort of injury or health concern. While Key is healthy, it is not quite clear when he might be rejoining the team -- Orgeron said in February that he would be back "at the appropriate time" but offered no timetable. In one additional note regarding the potential 2018 top-10 pick, he has been packing on the pounds this offseason. After being listed at 6-foot-6, 238 pounds for the past season, Key recently tweeted out that he is "255 and ready." Expect further updates on his availability and return date over the coming months.

It sucked but Garcon will suffice for now. And my bias shows that I a ecstatic the Niners went defense. Dline, LB are my favorites to watch. Was hoping maybe Juju, John Ross or Ardatius would fall to the Niners.

Yep. Need some risers Right now QB and RB look loaded.

I was hoping to come out of the next draft with our QB, #1 WR, safety and a pass rusher. Hopefully it shapes up that way. We have a lot of high picks right now.

Not a great WR class at all, but Courtland Sutton is intriguing. He'd be a guy I'd look at depending on where and how high he's going. Calvin Ridley is another good one but he's already older than what I'd prefer at where he is at this point.

Christian Kirk, James Washington and Antonio Callaway are other names but I'm not sure where I stand on them right now.

QB and OT should be stronger next year, but everything else is likely to be much weaker than the insane 2017 draft.

Jake Browning has one fatal flaw: absolutely terrible arm. I'm not a guy that need his QBs to have rocket arms but his arm is just plain weak. Does a whole lot of overcompensating for it in his delivery and motion. Doesn't leave him with a lot of room for error.

You put Browning's football IQ and QBing skills on Jackson's body and you'd have the perfect QB prospect. Standalone they both have some real flaws that might be hard for me to get by if I'm taking them high.

Baker Mayfield is going to be an absolute nightmare to scout and pinpoint. Throws the heck out of the football but makes things so unnecessarily difficult for himself and plays outside the confines of his offense on too many occasions.

Right now the only QB I'd have in the first is Sam Darnold. Josh Allen has some real potential but I won't go that far yet. There's another super sleeper that I won't talk about because I'm unsure but he's got out of this world potential.

I'm a big Sutton fan. He should have declared this year.

Agreed, loved me some Sutton. I would've probably put him #2 after Corey Davis.

John Ross - WR - Huskies

An NFC college scouting director said that Washington WR John Ross "would have been even better and put up bigger numbers if the quarterback could have gotten him the ball."

Shots fired at Mr. Jake Browning. Given that Ross posted a marvelous 81-1150-17 receiving line in 14 games this past season, it is certainly saying something that those numbers could have been even better. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reported on Monday that Ross was "in the conversation" to be drafted by the Bengals at pick No. 9. That should probably be considered close to his ceiling. A pick in the teens or early 20's is very much in play should the Bengals opt to look elsewhere.

A player that I'm rooting for next year is Max Browne. Yeah he got beat out by Darnold, despite that I still believe that he has a chance to become a solid NFL starter. Pitt is definitely a great program for a QB to go to to try to revive one's career.
