Its go time!!!

Forecast: Low 60's, scattered showers, wind 10-15 MPH.

SF is 9.5 point favorites at home to Packer team playing pretty well.

9ers are coming off a bye, while Green Bay is on a short week coming off a win in Dallas last Sunday.

Very short injury report for SF:
Greenlaw is questionable but widely expected to play
Ferrell is out
Odum has been activated from IR

Packers have a very good OL. They excel in pass protection. Fortunately Love isn't overly mobile and doesn't consistently show the ability to extend plays, so hopefully the DL can consistently pressure Jordan. This is a game where the DL is going to have to show up and show out. Packers have also been really strong in the run game lately. 9ers have been susceptible to run game this season. Going to need to clean that up, especially since this game could have some weather enter the equation.

They have been better lately, but the Packers defense is vulnerable across the board. Their LB's struggle dropping into coverage and are especially vulnerable to passes to RB's. 9ers should be able to exploit both of those weaknesses. Packers also aren't a great pass rushing team. This is not a bad matchup for the 9ers offense.

The Packers are actually one of few teams that are worse on special teams than the 9ers are. 9ers rank out 25th, and GB 31st. However, that definitely not saying that the 9ers have an "advantage" in the special teams game today. However, hopefully it means special teams won't be a - tonight. Having said that, we are entering this game with shaken confidence in Moody and weather could be a factor in the kicking game.

Lets get it!!!

Watching all of last week's matchups, one common theme that was apparent for pretty much all of the losing teams was how bad the tackling was.

While some of that was likely due to weather in a few of those games, as dudes were reluctant to deliver a lot of contact in the cold. a lot of it was also taking poor angles and just plain bad execution. Weather or no weather, this is the playoffs you have to keep competing and will that guy to the ground.

Niners have suffered through bouts of poor tackling this season. Hopefully tackling has been an emphasis in the defensive meetings this week. They need to stay hungry, read the angles well, execute solidly, wrap up, and swarm the ball.

Time for our DL to dominate. With all the probowlers we ought to a lot more than we do.

Rain not a factor niners win 31 14. If rain is a factor packers win 17 14. And I sure hope it doesn't come down to a field goal, I have no confidence in Moody.

Yup.

Its time the DL brought more steak than sizzle. Everybody talks about how strong the DL position group is and how talented they are. The DL has an insane amount of resources invested into it, but it sure seems like they have been more sizzle than steak so far. We've been waiting on them to dominate a game all season, but it hasn't happened yet. More often than not they have been been outperformed by opposing team's O-line.

Playoffs have arrived, its time to show out.

Hoping Greenlaw’s not too limited.

Surprising development, Clelin Ferrell has been placed on IR ending his season. That is the corresponding move made to open up the spot for Odum being activated from IR.

Seems like Ferrell must have suffered some sort of setback, as by most indications his knee was a shorter term thing. Like a 2-3 week injury, and its already been 2 weeks.

Ferrell has been far from great, but he started every game this season and played almost half of the defensive snaps. Having said that, he's basically just an average situational pass rusher. I'm assuming Chase Young now becomes the starter, and picks up some extra snaps. Maybe that will spark him to step up his game.

DE Alex Barrett, and DT TY McGill are today's practice squad elevations.

Loading up on bodies for the DL.

Looks like there will be light rain the whole game. Hope it doesn't affect Purdy much.

Ravens allowed punt return touchdown. That's precisely the sort of thing we absolutely cannot afford in this game.

Would not mind seeing ravens lose. That defense is ferocious.

Greenlaw is active.

So with Ferrell being placed in IR, its all hands on deck for the 9ers going into the playoffs.

Inactive list: Matt Pryor, Ronnie Bell, Jalen Graham, Samuel Womack, Alex Barrett, Ty McGill.

Kind of Funny that Barrett and McGill are both inactive after being elevated from the practice squad. Apparently was just a procedural thing and a token gesture by the team to get those guys a boost in pay.

Don't love Womack being inactive. I guess they figure with Odum back, Womack won't be needed as much on special teams? Although, Sam is easily one of the better ST players, so not sure why they couldn't of had both guys. I also think Womack is underrated as a CB. At the very least, I have more confidence in his coverage ability than Ambry & Oliver. Oliver is tolerable in the run game though.

Our DL will be critical. We need to be able to get to Love without having to blitz. If Love has time to throw, our secondary can be vulnerable.
