2025 is definitely going to be cap hell and rebuild around Purdy year

Reading Maiocco's article, it's hard to say if this is a pure restructure, or if he also took a bit of a salary cut. Kind of seems like Maiocco is conflating the two a bit.

FWIW, Grant Cohn is reporting that it is a pay cut, not a big one. In fact they could have save even more if they cut him. It would have saved 4.9 million. Instead they agreed to a smaller pay cut of 1.75 million.

Armstead was always going to be gone either this year or next. His contract had become a real albatross with all the restructures. I was a bit surprised we did it this year as we need the savings next year for Purdy and Aiyuk, but I guess we can always roll over unused cap.

Incidentally, I think there's a pretty good chance we also cut Hargrave after next season, unless he plays at a pro bowl level this upcoming year. We'd save $8 million against the cap by cutting him next year, and more if we do a post-June 1 designation.

Cohn reporting the Ravens asked about Deebo’s availability and were rebuffed. For now. Emphasis on the latter, but that might just be Cohn’s read.

Yeah, just read that - though not from Cohn. I'd be very curious what they offered. In a perfect world, we'd keep Samuel this year, make another balls-out run for the SB, then move him next year. But there's a fair chance that reduces his trade value. But if they were offering their first-round pick, I'd be sorely tempted to take that trade now.

Regardless, it's good to know there's some sort of market for Deebo.

Cohn's point about the "for now" part is largely based on getting a much bigger cap savings if it happens after June 1. That and being after the draft, Cohn feels it would be more likely that a post June 1 trade would be for another proven player and not a pick (i.e. a WR, OT, CB, etc.) that could help the team win now rather than later. At least that's Cohn's take.

Can't see it happening this year if it's after the draft. We wouldn't want a 2025 pick as we'd need to replace Samuel this offseason. I haven't looked at their players in terms of who might be available, but if we're trading for a player, that likely eliminates the cap savings, so it could be a borderline redundant move unless we traded for a young guy on a rookie deal. That starts to get pretty complicated.

That works. I thought Givens regressed a bit this past year, and he's a liability against the run, but I think the guys we've added are decent against the run, so a little interior pass rush helps fill Armstead's void.

And it looks like we are back in the market for a Greenlaw replacement - bummer.

Forget Kendricks and his 32 year old a$$. I sat just draft a stud LB

Always a great idea to draft a stud. But assuming we use our first round pick on OL, it would be a pretty far reach to assume we can find a day 2 or 3 LB that can start this season and contribute to a Super Bowl run. A vet is the more likely choice for a Greenlaw-rental this season and hope a draft pick can contribute down the road.

Not a great draft for LBs. And lots of needs.

Surprisingly it's a good draft for DL, but with those needs met, hopefully they go OL 1st round. Also need WR with Jennings, Conley and McCloud possibly leaving

Depends who is on the board at 31. If Murphy is there, I would be very hard-pressed to pass on him unless one of the top OTs is also there. Newton would be tempting, too. We added some decent depth pieces, but not guys you want starting in an ideal situation. There are several guys who could be there at DT in the second round, though.

I want to add a WR or two, but I'm looking later in the draft at this point. It's a deep position, and Jennings is unlikely to leave. If he does, we'll get a second-round pick, so at that point you might think WR in the second or third. I think Conley could easily be re-signed on the cheap.

Harbaugh isn't going to agree to take the Chargers job if they were going to dump all their best players.

Arik Armstead set to sign with the Jaguars. Baalke drafted him. And Ray Ray Mccloud signs with Falcons. Meanwhile, Chase Young still looking for work. Something tells me he comes back on one year deal to play on passing downs.
