I disagree, if Dudley is back at the level of his last Phoenix years he's exactly what this team needs. Not a stopper but a decent defender, a lights out off the ball shooter and a good basketball IQ to keep the ball moving for a good shot. I'm not holding my breath on it tho :(

Well he had a bad knee and for god knows what reason he was asked to play on it throughout the season when there was virtually no chance we'd miss the playoffs. We were thin at SF but not so thin that barnes couldn't have filled the gap. Bullock would have gotten some nice developmental time as well.

imo a very poor decision by doc. Dudley, like most athletes, probably pushed himself to play, too. But doing so killed his confidence in addition to the speed of his recovery, so he never ended up getting back on track. I hope that this coming season he's allowed to play healthy and take his time. I don't have high hopes for him but if he gets back to even a notch or two behind where he was in phoenix, this team would benefit a LOT.

FA Targets

I've heard Emeka Okafor, Epke Udoh, and Andray Blatche as targets we're monitoring, but reportedly so are the Miami Heat. I just got the following tweet that there may be interest in Leandro Barbosa:

From Daniel O'Brien, on what Barbosa can do for the Clippers:

[tweet]https://twitter.com/DanielO_BR/status/503290063447666688[/tweet]

Barbosa is a known 3-point shooter and excellent free throw shooter. He is a dual guard, but prefers the shooting guard role. He is also a former 6th Man Award winner in 2007 as part of the Suns. Barbosa played for Doc's Celtics in the 2012-13 season before he was traded at the deadline. But he's also known for this:

Of the seven of thirteen games where he played an average of 25 minutes or more, he is a perfect 7-0 with 18.8 points per game and 15 for 37 in 3-pointers made (40.5%): http://bkref.com/tiny/hqMPG

It seems to me that Doc wants Barbosa because he may be the Clipper's only hope to get past the Thunder. He is 12-1 against them ever since Kevin Durant was drafted.

He will add nice depth to our squad. I hope he gets more time at the 2 rather than at the 1. I haven't seen much of him recently, how's his defense?

That's the weird part. He is a career 0.9 in steals and 0.1 in blocks.

His average difference rating against the Thunder in 13 games is +6.2. If I apply the 25 minutes restriction, he's a +9.2. He has a career high of 6 steals, twice coming against the Thunder.

I'd need to find the Suns/Thunder game in its entirety and do a Preventions analysis on Barbosa. I've never seen his defense before.

Steals per game don't exactly mean a player is great at defense. He could have been reaching a lot, which ends up being a bad thing because then the man can get passed you if you fail to strip the ball.

Okafor Drawing Widespread Interest

Post#513 » by Ranma » Mon Aug 25, 2014 5:01 am

Marc Stein, ESPN (8/24/14)
Roughly half of the league, I'm told, has registered interest this summer in Okafor, despite the fact that the 31-year-old free agent lost the entire 2013-14 season while recovering from a serious neck ailment.

The list of pursuers for the defensive-minded center, according to NBA front office sources, includes LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers as well as LeBron's old friends in Miami.

But I'm likewise told that Okafor is unlikely to sign anywhere until midseason as he continues to recover from his herniated disk.

Teams eyeing Emeka Okafor's return

I think no matter how you split it, Barbosa is an upgrade from Willie Green. I hope we can sign him soon as to start developing some team chemistry.

Okafor will be a great pickup for whichever team ends up signing him. I don't think he would sign with the clips due to the lack of playing time we can offer him.

Last I saw of Barbosa when he was in Boston was a bit sad, he was really slow and not able to perform very well. Plus, do we really need another scoring combo guard that plays no defense off the bench??

This would probably go better on the trades thread, but since I'm here... I'm seeing Warriors fans complaining about Harrison Barnes everywhere in this forum, would it be possible for us to get him? maybe a package of Crawford and Barnes plus a sweetener (Wilcox or a pick) for Harrison and Speights? would they be interested? do we even want to do that? It'd be hard to accept that prick Speights in our team, and to watch Jamal and Matt playing for the enemy, but Harrison Barnes has all the tools of a SF with length that can develop into the good defender and shooter that we need so much.

Unfortunately I think Doc loves Jamal too much to trade him. He is our 4th quarter go to guy because apparently JJ is Mr 1st quarter only.

I think at this point I'm the only person here who still likes Jamal.

I love Jamal
But JJ should get more run, especially when Jamal gets into iso chuck mode. Jamal is the perfect guy to lead the bench 5 when they come in

I love the man as well, but at this point he's pretty much the only piece we can afford to send away to improve the team (and we need to improve our wing play BADLY). And I think Doc features him way more than his play deserves.
