If a Gasol-type player is not working in your system then why the hell would you trade for a crappier version of a Gasol-type player? Kobe would be spitting nails watching Bargnani play defense. Trust me.
Also, forget about the Hawks trading Josh Smith for Gasol. That would kill their chances to land Howard next year because they'd be taking on $19m of salary in 2013-14. I doubt Hawks would trade Horford+Morrow for Gasol though that'd be a nice package for the Lakers. I think the Hawks see a Howard+Horford front line is a promising goal for them to shoot for. Also, why improve the Lakers chance to win a title since that'd reduce the chances Howard would look elsewhere. So no chance on a Hawks deal.
I think a trade worth considering is a trade with the Celtics. The Celtics need front court help badly. The Celtics could offer Brandon Bass + Avery Bradley+Jeff Green for Gasol + Hill.
Bass can preserve front court strength (perhaps the Lakers could also sign a free agent or two - such as Kenyon Martin).
Bradley would be a great addition to guard the Westbrooks and other guards that would eat Nash alive.
Green would give some strong minutes at the 3 spot.
The Celtics would get a big frontcourt boost.
It'd be a win-win!
Add Lee for Boston, remove Hill and replace him with Blake and Duhon then you got yourself a deal.
