why noy just trade Gasol for Stoudemire

He thrived w/ Nash and Dantioni

would probably help both teams.

We are not getting Lebron. this whole 2014 thing is bs. Stoudemire would be in the same position that Gasol is. He is not a stretch 4. In D'antonis offense he was the center.

LA out- Gasol
LA in - J. Smith, Marvin Williams, Raja Bell

ATL out - J Smith
ATL in - Al Jeff

Utah out - Al Jeff, Marv, Bell
Utah in - Gasol

I know J Smith isn't ideal but he wants to win bad and defends. Him and Clark in the rotation plus those other guys would solve our depth and athleticism issues without taking on salary risk...

Lets stop this josh smith to La now. La is not bending backwards for any player including Dwight. In order to keep Dwight, josh will also need to be signed to a long term deal. No way does LA blow 15M per year on smith.

I'm not sure about the validity of the Bobcats rumor but if it keeps the 2014 plan alive and nets us a surefire lottery pick I'd have to think long and hard about it.

Paul Pierce for Pau Gasol. Lakers get a borderline all-star shooter/scorer at the 3 for their back-up 5. He's older than Pau, but it's a two-year short-term plan anyways with Kobe/Nash, and Pierce should be good for another year after this one. He's also partially guaranteed/expiring next year, so 2014 cap space is fully intact and his deal will be highly mobile this coming offseason.

The Celtics get a similar caliber player to Pierce, only 3 years younger and at a greater position of need.

Totally crackpot idea but would you guys do

Dwight

for

Perkins
Ibaka
+whatever filler if needed to make salaries work

I don't know if Dwight would re-up in a small market like OKC but you'd have a pretty godly trio there. For us we'd put Pau back in the post and Ibaka would bring us the defense and athleticism without the high maintenance "feed me the ball" issues. Those two worked pretty well together for the Spanish team in the Olympics. Perkins is salary throw in but would be a decent backup C I suppose.

You act like we are in a position not to take chances. I don't want to resign Smith either, BUT it's worth a try to see if it works, if it does then maybe you work something out, if it doesn't you let him walk or offer a 1 year deal and see if he can get anything anywhere else. Is anyone else going to throw big longterm money at him?

Personally I'd rather have Millsap, though the overall defense and athleticism of Smith makes me curious at this point, we have nothing to lose.

Like the Utah fan offered before, could just do it straight up with Utah with Milsap, Marv and Bell.

Celtic fan here. How about Paul Pierce and Brandon Bass(played well last year during the season and playoffs but has been inconsistent this year shooting the ball) for Gasol and Metta World Peace. Bass is not a post scorer but he has shown in the past that he can have a very reliable 18 ft jumper. He is shooting 86% from the line this year so he hasn't forgotten to shoot but the Celtics are playing so mediocre this year, they haven't gotten him as many open looks.

Bass performed well in last years playoffs and could be the Lakers backup PF. He does have 2.5 years left on his contract but its not huge numbers so he could probably be dealt sometime next year.

If the Celtics just traded PP for Gasol, the Celtics would have zero depth at SF and little proven outside shooting as well at the position.

I actually really don't like the Celtics trading PP -- especially to the Lakers -- but if the Celtics don't get some size -- ideally a Horace Grant type of PF would be best -- they won't even have an outside shot to beat Miami if they make the playoffs.

Do I think a PP for Gasol trade will happen? Probably not simply because what PP has meant to the franchise and the fact that the Celtics ideally need a PF to play alongside KG more then a center to play alongside him.

And the Lakers may be able to get someone younger who is a better fit.

New Laker lineup.
PG -- Nash. obviously must be guarded.
SF -- Kobe.
SF -- PP very good 3 point shooter.. even in a bad year from 4, he shoots around 36%.
PF -- Clark/Bass. Bass can hit the perimeter shot really well at times if left open. Not a go to scorer at all.
C -- Howard.

This lineup gives the Lakers flexibility to put 4 shooters with Howard. Defense is still relatively weak but offense may be improved substantially.

Now for Celtics.
PG -- Rondo
SG -- Bradley/Lee
SF -- Artest/Green
PF -- KG (not his best position but he would be ok here)
C -- Gasol backed up by KG

Using Magic's logic that Mavs want Dwight and Dwight wants Mavs (the thought of Cuban and Dwight makes me sick) how about this trade:

Dallas Out: Marion, Mayo, Kaman
Dallas In: Howard, Barbosa

Collison
Barbosa
Vince Carter
Dirk
Howard

LAL OUT: Howard
LAL IN: Mayo, Bass, Marion (Both Mayo and Marion expire in 14)

Nash/Duhon/Blake/Morris
Mayo/MWP/Morris/Meeks
Kobe/MWP/Clark
Marion/Bass/Clark/MWP
Gasol/Clark/Sacre

Bos Out: Barbosa, Bass
Bos In: Kaman

Rondo
Bradley
Pierce
Garnett
Kaman

Boston gets an expiring in Kaman and Dallas draft pick. Not sure if Boston does this (seems unlikely).

Why would the Wolves???

Love >> Pau
Shved > Brooks
Wallace is a nice piece but not at the expense of Love and Shved.

was not actually serious but I'll make up an answer:

- those >'s are injured
- wing depth
- Spaniard connection
