I dont get the Mitch reference. Mitch isnt Otis Smith or Rob Hennigan...why would he trade the better player in Pau for a fringe all star like Smith? LA would be stupid for that.

That's what I don't get.... Why should we give the best player in the trade and not ask for fair return? Pau gasol and Steve Blake for josh smith and iman shumpert is fair.

New York will rid the most horrible contract in the NBA and get a team changing pf. Amare is not efficient as a pf, especially next to tyson. Getting gasol and Blake for iman and amare is fair.

Atlanta needs a center and getting Amare and 2 second rounders from LA is fair for josh smith.

If it's not fair, tell me why

The problem is none of these teams have a need for any of these guys. Amare for one isnt a center and he has a massive uninsured contract. ATL of all teams isnt going to touch that when they could be better for the team if they want to retool. Its not about fairness, fairness in trades is stupid b/c no one is forcing any other party to act. The thing we should discuss is need and benefit. NY benefits in any way by getting Amare out of dodge even for lesser players so in the end they win if they trade him. LA has 0 need for Amare with Dwight on the team. LA would be stupid to trade for an expiring Josh Smith who is looking for a max deal at seasons end.

Pau shouldnt even be discussed by LA fans to be traded especially for guys that are not even on his level. This team is in contention this year not looking to make major moves to win one. Pau can take a great load off Dwight if in foul trouble or on the bench. Not many teams can sub in a guy that will give them close to what their star would give them in production.

Ney york becomes freaking awesome.... We get more athletic (with a large expiring contract in Josh Smith), and get rid of Blake and Duhon...Atlanta gets their Center

urgh this trade isn't as good for us as you'd think. You're bringing in two guys who love to shoot who cannot shoot at all in D'antoni's system. I don't want to lead the league in Bricks. lol Oh and most of all you don't want to be in a position where you have to resign josh smith to the max. Also Pau has done a really good job spacing the floor these last two games playing up tempo and more of D'antoni's system. Another reason for keeping him.

I think Atl would have the easiet time of saying NO to this deal....why would they get rid of two expiring contracts, really big ones for a guy still owed 80 something million, uninsured and on the big time decline in Amare? He also doesn't help Horford play at his natural position of PF. NY would have the easiest time saying yes to it since they kept to get out of Amare contract sooner and get a better team player in Pau. Shumpert is nice to have but that depends on how he recovers from surgery.

In the end Laker fam just be happy with Pau Gasol. Not every team has a 3rd or 4th best player given them 14-15 pts and 9-10 rebounds and can hold down the fort when their star player is on the bench. Appreciate Pau or do we need to be reminded of how bad the days were before we traded for him. Unless he playing like a bench warmer he deserves to be on this squad and have a chance to help win the title unless its for a deal that cant be passed up. Josh Smith is not a once in a lifetime player and doesnt give LA hope for its future either.

I completely agree with Amare's contract sucking big cajones.... thats why they would be giving a young rpomising pg/sg in Iman as well, and taking back blake.

The reason why I thought this trade would help is because both Iman and Josh Smith are extremely gifted athletes and great defensively. They might not be great shooters but they can get to the basket and are good in transition. With the game evolving the way it is... these players are very valuable.

If Smith wants to get a big contract elsewhere, then playing with his Homie Dwight, then we can facilitate a S&T and get back a TPE and maybe a some picks

You don't necessarily need to get team defense from your PF position. A SF with great athleticism like Trevor Ariza could just as easily change the dynamic on the defensive end of the floor.
