The guy is one hell of an owner. I would be really upsetting if he passes away.

You know what really irks me is that the GB is all sad and stuff about Jerry Buss calling him the greatest owner ever but right when you enter the LeBron-Kobe debate the Lakers never been great and Kobe Bryant was very overrated...That's like a insult to Jerry Buss' work..

The Buss thread on the GB has more a$$holes posting in it with some pretty weak 'hater' stuff with some even weaker agendas. I hate people.

Anyway, All the best to the Buss family during this time. I really hope the old Dr can pull through.

My condolences to the Buss family. I feel for you Lakers fans too. He was/is a staple in your franchise history.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dr. Buss and his family.
No question in my mind that he is the greatest owner in the history of sports.

The news of his illness, and the downturn in his condition is truly sad. I feel like I did when Chick passed.

Dr. Buss is the man responsible for making the Lakers one of the greatest sports organization in the world.
On a personal note, his efforts to build and rebuild the team over and over in the last 30 some odd years have provided so much joy and entertainment for me and my kids.

His legacy will be of a winner.

Anybody know if he made it to avoid that "owner's tax" that his siblings will be responsible for when he passes away. Been quite some time since that has been talked about, remember reading that Dr. Buss was paying into the tax early to try to decrease the load on the family

That's BS, you cannot predict that, unless Dr. Buss forgoes all his options like chemo etc.

What Kobe has been on the court, is what Dr. Buss has been in the office.

He is definitely the creme de la creme of owners.

I think he probably has already went through all his options. I don't think he got diagnosed recently....we just found out about it now because it's nearing the end. That report sounds pretty legit to me. But anyways it's not even about that...sucks to hear this. One of the most important figures of NBA history

This is correct. Buss has been sick for some time now leading to him taking an increased lesser role in the day to day activities of running the team. That's why for the past year you've heard about Jim making most of the larger decisions. Such as the MDA hiring etc.

I'd assume if he's at Cedar's and it's being reported he has but a few days to live we're very likely to hear of his passing within the next week.

EXTREMELY sad news for me and I'm sure sad news for Laker and sports fans everywhere. We've been truly blessed to have such a great owner for so many years.

A very short anecdote I'll share. Back in 2004 I was at Binion's Horseshoe during the World Series of Poker. Jerry was a big poker fan, as many of you know, and frequently traveled to Vegas during the WSOP to play some of the tournaments. Anyway, he was coming down one of the escalators from the poker room to the main casino floor and I was on the other side going up to the poker room. This was during the time it was reported the Lakers were going to have to make a decision to either keep Kobe or keep Shaq. In my mind Kobe was the future of the franchise and the last thing I wanted was to see him traded so as Jerry was coming down the escalator I blurted out "Dr. Buss please don't let Kobe get away from our team" and he looked over and smiled and kept going down the escalator. To this day I like to feel I at least played a VERY tiny role in the team's decision to keep the Mamba.
Sometimes being wrong is awesome!!! :D

This is absolutely horrible. I really hope he can make it through. The guy is too great of an owner, would be a tragedy to see the Lakers without him.

Either way the man deserves a statue on front of Staples.
