Q's about Kent Bazemore
Hawks fan here,
I was hoping someone on this board could give me a little insight and input on Kent Bazemore. Him and Thabo are our only new guys this season that we acquired via FA. Here are some of my questions I have about Kent Bazemore.
1. We signed him to a 2 year contract worth 4 million. Would you say that's a good deal or fair or what?
2. What kind of player is he? Can you describe his style of play?
3. We need a lot of help on defense. Can he play D?
4. Do you think he still has a lot of potential or has he reached or coming to close reaching his max?
5. What should we expect from him this season?
Really I could use any type of input on him. Just trying to know more about the guy. Thanks in advance!

we only had him for half a season and with Antoni sys it also over inflated his #'s on a bad team. I know for sure he can't play D, he's terrible. All I recall of him was he is capable of high lvl offensive impact if he's give green light to do as he pleases.

He;s athletic, good ball handler and a decent shooter. He forced some steals just by his speed and long arms, still not sure what he can do on a team that hasn't already given up. I'd have liked to keep him, a 3 tool player at the weakest position in the league is pretty valuable.

Could be a good deal if he performs like we felt he could and he was starting to show.
2. What kind of player is he? Can you describe his style of play?
Great arm length and is very active. He was on a team that was horrid and so it's hard to say if him being a hog was situational or not but he pissed off some teammates and Pau called him out.
3. We need a lot of help on defense. Can he play D?
Yeah, he looked like a decent man defender, but we didn't play D so I can't say about help or team D ability.
4. Do you think he still has a lot of potential or has he reached or coming to close reaching his max?
potential to spare for sure. Many of us wanted to keep him and he's never gotten enough floor time to fully develop other than the last half of last season where he did some good things.
5. What should we expect from him this season?
No idea but if he gets good burn I expect he'll be solid.
Really I could use any type of input on him. Just trying to know more about the guy. Thanks in advance!
Natural athlete, attacks the rim and gets to the line, played some D, lefty, could be solid good or just a guy who gives you some bench pop...he probably also benefited from Mike D ball, though.

Yeah, I'd say that's just about right for both sides.
2. What kind of player is he? Can you describe his style of play?
Young and athletic. Gets up and down the floor, with better handles and playmaking than advertised. Having said that, he's not advertised as such and so he's exactly what you would expect.
3. We need a lot of help on defense. Can he play D?
He's got nice size and will play with energy. Hard to say from our attrocious defense last year, all the injuries, and the limited time we saw him. According to 82games.com he at least had a positive net PER at shooting guard, so there's that.
4. Do you think he still has a lot of potential or has he reached or coming to close reaching his max?
He has potential left because he's still pretty raw. Not sure his ceiling is very high, though. Should be a "nice" player who plays with effort, could be a good spark-plug/glue guy.
5. What should we expect from him this season?
I'd expect nothing. Like I said, he's raw...not to say the kind of raw that a big man would be, where he can't even dribble and do a simple post move...but Kent is young. I wanted him back on this team, he seemed like a great teammate, a good kid, although maybe not the smartest he's ernest enough to overcome it with effort.
He's got good potential left, you guys should enjoy watching him find his role in this league. Glad he found a home.
Really I could use any type of input on him. Just trying to know more about the guy. Thanks in advance!

Re: Q's about Kent Bazemore
Honestly, I'm not sure if he's any good or not.
He was putting up pretty good stats for a few games last year but he also had control of the ball a lot, I believe that if you give anyone in the NBA the green light to drive and score especially in a fast paced system, they will be successful. I even picked him up on my fantasy team last year for a couple weeks until he hit a wall and his FG% dropped. He has a good driving game, but he never sees an open teammate when he does drive. I really don't know, it could go either way, but I wouldn't bet on him making any kind of impact. He's also an average 3 point shooter at best, he's quick and athletic though.

Re: Q's about Kent Bazemore
2 mil per year isn't bad...
he is a slashing/scoring PG who can play some SG...
from his days with the warriors, you could see his had man-on-man defensive potential... He gave kobe fits...
The lakers didn't play defense under Dantonie... so...
I think he can still develop.... with GS, I saw him as a defensive specialist... but within 1 game with the lakers, he showed more offensive flash then I ever thought he had... I don't know if he added that to his game, or never had a chance to show it in GS.
I think he can be a great 3rd PG/SG... while being a defensive speacialist.. he can guard the PG. SG, and some SF. he is versatile... I was esstaic when the lakers dumped steve blake for him and brooks... (although the lakers screwed up by not keeping baze...)
he isn't a creator...
his ceiling would be a off the bench PG/SG who can give the team a scoring jolt, or be assigned to a tough Guard... he is a good defensive player\
Hawks got a steal...
along with letting Marshal go, not bringing back bazemore was the lakers 2nd biggest mistake this offseason
lakers were a total mess last year.. when he was in, he did what he wanted, there were no reprucissions...
how can he function as a role player? we don't know

He was a perfect fit for D'Antoni's system, very athletic and long, great slashing to the basket, plays kind of out of control, better as a slasher than a ball handler.

Re: Q's about Kent Bazemore
He will be the second or 3rd player off the bench. He will shoot a lot, make some and miss more. Long arms. OK on defense. Just not an elite althletic player. He could average 3 points to 10 points a game. Lakers had so many injuries, he was pushed up into the rotation 3 or 4 spots beyond his talent. Ever NBA player can shoot and do what he did given the playing time. Deal for 2 million. Nice for him, but he really is a min player who got more playing time on a team that won 25 games. That tells you a lot. He helped himself get a nice deal, but did not help team in wins.

I can say with absolute certainty that 90% of the time expended on the posts in this thread was wasted on Bazemore... If that answers the question...

Definitely worth two million a year. He doesn't have an amazing handle but moves well without the ball and can shoot. He can play d, I think he has quite a bit of potential. Currently, he's the talent his minutes and salary dictate, bouncin around the league but I think he just needs an opportunity to play. I was sad to see him go personally. Active and young.

I'll put money on that he won't average anywhere near 10 points and 4 rebs a game. He won't even average 10 mins a game...

He did with backup minutes with us last year. Circumstances aside, that shows he can at least play. I didn't say he was going to be an all star.

locking because there were more than enough answers and this doesn't pertain to the Lakers.
