I know a good bit about orthopedics. A tibia fracture is serious, it hurts like hell and the way his leg appears to bend on the replay there is no way he merely chipped it, its broken. I would expect they will do surgery whether the fracture is displaced or not, its a safer bet for a strong heal but it has a longer recovery time. I'd expect he will be out 4-6 months, minimum.

However, assuming he didn't tear any tendons while he was at it a broken tib is a MUCH less worrisome long term injury that a torn anything in the leg. Broken bones are pretty straight forward, you set them, you let them heal, you rehab to get your strength back... but with none of the fear in conditioning associated with tendon injuries and you're good to go. As long as you don't come back too soon and the bone has not healed fully there should be zero long term effects.

And this is coming from a Suns fan who typically enjoys Laker misery, but I can't take joy in this one. That sucks for him, especially on opening night. But once again, bone injuries, while incredibly painful, are very straight forward to rehab and should not recur.

Wait... he broke his own leg? That has got to be a first.

It looks like there was a strong downward force acting on the tibia from his jump, then a horizontal force coming in from behind in the form of his own foot. Too much pressure from two angles for the tibia, so it snapped. You can actually see it give way in this clip. What a shame...

Julia's development was the one thing I was looking forward to this season. It looks the Quest for Okafor has begun.

Why does his leg just bend it's not like his foot kicked it that hard

What the ell happened

Seems like he got pushed rather hard.

Thanks for the honesty.

I still can't believe it. Landing the 7th pick was just about the only positive about last season and now Randle is hurt.

It looked like he hits his own leg. Weird injury. No matter how many times I watch it it still puzzles me what exactly happened. Oh well hope he recovers fast.

That sucks. Hopefully this won't effect his career long term. Hopefully he gets more than enough time to heal before trying to come back. Sorry to hear this laker fans.

wow i tuned out before all the action happened

first time i'm hearing of the kobe/dwight altercation and randle injury

that said, fractured bones don't have lasting effects unless you mess up your rehab, and most certainly nothing lasting on athleticism like joint injuries

Guess that's the best news we could have hoped for after last night. Now if Kelly gets his ass in gear, I can root for a Davis/Kelly/X/Calrkson/Lin unit to develop together.

I saw that doctor's tweet, but didn't post because he was way head of everyone else. Not sure who he is or how he'd know about it. Anyone else know this guy?
