Could Ed Davis as a starter fit with Randle?

Post#1 » by aaron_gray » Sun Dec 28, 2014 7:59 am

Things I'm worried about:

Who's going to guard the post behemoths? Ed isn't stopping Al Jeff when he comes to town, and neither is Randle.

Front court becomes tiny, and while Ed generates a ton of offensive rebounds, he is currently 47th in defensive rebounding percentage this year for players who have played at least 15 min.

So what do you guys think? I personally don't feel like he's a great fit with Randle on defense. He would be an amazing backup big, but I feel like he's a starting quality player. If you want to bring him in as a backup, you'll probably have to pay him starters money.

No, but he is a good back up to both randle and a true C like Marc Asik or Jordan.

Yep Penberthy nailed it. Would not start him and he seems to flourish off the bench as long as he's seeing good minutes. We need a Gasol, Hibbert, Asik, Towns, or Okafor at the 5.

I agree with Danny D, for the last time Ed is NOT a 5....deal with it.

I don't think towns is a 5 either. Base isn't strong enough

No. Not close. They need a legit 5. Someone like Roy Hibbert, Lopez or Asik.

This really shouldn't be a discussion worrying about considering Davis will never be better than a good role player. If we're smart we'll look to move him for a pick.

Ed Davis is better than Boozer, Sacre and Hill at protecting the rim but he'd be undersized at the 5. He'd be fine as a backup 5 on a good team tho.

Thanks for the honesty.
