8 mil a year for Ed ?

I'd pass and resign Tarik and develop him more, I like his game and he's a lot more rugged around the basket than Ed will ever be.

Man, you need to operate with the assumption that the cap is $90 million soon. MLE is going to be around that much as soon as the cap rises and Ed Davis is worth the MLE money.

That may be true but it won't happen yet this offseason.

Kilroy wrote:I can see something in the 11M per area and maybe 3 years. It sounds like he'd be willing to sacrifice a little money per year for more years though and he's young so maybe 9M+/4yrs would be the home town discount. I don't think we have any bird rights with him, so 4yrs would seem to be the max length and I don't think we want to be at or above 10M for Davis.
I could be wrong though.
I just have a feeling he's more valuable than it seems especially since he's been playing for us on the cheap basically.

I don't think anyone sane would pay him 11M per year. I could see teams offering him slightly more than the MLE (something like 3/15-18m or 4/21-24M) and thats seems pretty fair. Anything more than that and he would be overpaid

Better hands, better passer, taller and a bit more finesse around the rim.

I agree with your line of thinking in regards to locking contracts in before they balloon, but in order for this approach to be implemented you'd have to be signing players to 5 yr deals not 3. The cap probably won't even balloon within the first 3 years so it would be a total waste to sign him to such a big deal that prevents the team from going after more impactful talent.

I remember reading in Zach Lowe's column that either the cap is going to gradually go up in 2 spurts starting this offseason or just balloon at once in 2016.

Still, without Davis' bird rights, we can only offer a 4 year deal right?

Are you sure you want to lock up the MLE for 4 years before you've secured your core? I'd have no problem with Mitch doing it if one of the RJW combo was coming, but if it ends up being Towns/Turner, wouldn't it be better to secure a backup wing or a pg?

If we luck out in the draft, we can always flip him for a wing in 6 months time. Davis would have great value.

10-12 in this economy. Fact is I think he is worth 8, but to the warriors he's easily worth 10, and to make them say they won't match it will likely have to be 12 and up. He's a Swiss Army knife of a player, hell he the 5th best restricted guy this summer. I personally go Butler, Leonard, Tobias, Knight, Green, and then Jackson in terms of talent and ceiling. The thing is the lakers haven't made a rfa play since 91. They even traded Caron partially so they didn't have to deal with being the team who had to face will we or won't we match. But back to your questions, he can help any team, and honestly if he was on the Griz or Hawks, they would have the title locked up IMO.

And as for this topic, 8 for Ed is crazy ... Kufos is better than Ed as a player and especially at rim protection. You would be better off paying him

Koufos being underpaid has nothing to do with what Ed Davis is worth, just like how much Steph Curry is getting paid had nothing to do with what Bledsoe got. Some teams just get lucky.
