Kobe ranked 93rd in ESPN player rankings

Post#1 » by Mamba Mentality » Wed Oct 7, 2015 7:07 pm

The countdown continued on Wednesday with Nos. 100-91, with Kobe Bryant coming in at No. 93. Bryant was ranked No. 6 in the 2012-13 countdown, then dropped to No. 25 the following season and was No. 40 last year.

At No. 93, Bryant is still the highest-ranked player on the Los Angeles Lakers. Every other team in the NBA has at least one player ranked higher than Kobe, making him the lowest-ranked "best player" on any team.

Bryant is slated to make $25 million this season, more than any other player in the NBA, and his $54 million over the past two seasons is by far the most of any player. We take a look at why Kobe has fallen so far

The ranking from 1-90 haven't been released yet as far as I know, but I'm really curious to see what guys rank above him. Simply from a skill standpoint Kobe is probably 50-60, I just think they're putting too much weight on physical limitations.

Cant wait for Kobe to use this as fuel for the upcoming season.

Didn't exactly help him fuel his season last year. He shot horrendously last season so i don't find anything wrong with this ranking.

At this point, I don't care. He's been so injured it's really tough to rank him, and really he shouldn't be ranked very high. I just hope he doesn't suffer another major injury and he just gets to go out standing.

If that happens, I think he'll surprise a lot of people with what he's capable of.

The way he played last year he's lucky to even be top 100, that's before considering his health concerns

Who cares really, some of those players ranked over Kobe will NEVER even win a ring.....so rank that.

ESPN is going to really miss Kobe. I have a feeling they're lining up Kevin Durant to be the next bad guy.

At the end of the day this is just one persons opinion. Ranking Kobe 93 isn't going to stop coaches from sending double teams to Kobe.

Great, rank him at 93. It means absolutely nothing. Absolutely nothing at all.

i hope he doesn't use this as fuel for this coming season. the last thing the team needs is for kobe to dominate the ball more, stop the flow of the offence and stunt the growth of the young players.

Not really sure why Kobe would complain. He is like 200 spots too high

It is all abritrary. Considering his recent injury history and his play last season, I really don't have an issue where they rank him.

I think its tough to rank guy who can't seem to be healthy for a full season. By their criteria its fair, but if Kobe is healthy there really isn't 30 guys who are better. Just like when wade is healthy he is arguably a top 25 player easy

It isn't one person's opinion. Plenty of ESPN writers collaborated to make the list. Did you read how they compiled the list?

Quite frankly who gives a ****? Basketball isn't played on paper, if it was we'd have won a championship in 2013. I kind of hoped Kobe would brush it off instead of take it as an insult and give some quotable material.

I don't really care. Even the number 1 ranked player isn't guaranteed to win the MVP or the championship so who cares if Kobe is ranked 93rd?

And honestly, those guys who ranked Kobe at 93 don't stand a chance against him on 1 on 1 basketball. :noway:

I've bashed ESPN writers before but now I look at this differently and think it makes for good conversation in a sports bar or forums like this. So I think the whole ranking thing is good even if they put my guy at 93 or 168 or whatever.

For me Kobe at this stage is hard to gauge and as a super Kobe fan even I am pessimistic in a sense on how he will do after his injury issues for the past two years. Plus you add the mileage and the fact he is 37 and playing a guard....that's tough. Odds are against Kobe. At the same time Kobe is religious in preparation and the consummate professional. He is a gifted athlete so his 37 isn't necessarily our 37 that's for sure. He has got more mileage but this is a super athlete that takes care of his body. I think Kobe finishing a season without injury would be victory in itself. He does look great out there thus far and with more talent around him he is going to feast a little bit on teams now that they have to worry about randle, hibbert, Russell and clarkson rather than just focus on him.

The saltiness here is comical. The people saying "I don't care about rankings" wouldn't be saying that if he was ranked higher. Either way, he's a net negative player at this point. Bringing rings into this is completely irrelevant.

Well, fwiw, being ranked 3rd wouldn't mean anything either.
