Really disappointed in Russell.
What disturbs me, is that his intensity is completely non existent.

I have never seen a highly touted rookie, who wants to prove himself, look that drained of energy...

Disappointing Preseason after a disappointing Summer League is coming to an end.
Let's hope he can turn it up at least one notch in the Regular season.

Oh and he Looks puffy in his upper body, not like a professional athlete.

I don't understand why Black doesn't get the backup C minutes. Bass and Kelly just doesn't work, especially if we have Huertas+Lou in the back court.

I think Scott was sending a message with this one... I think the young guys stopped listening to him after the 2 wins, so he said, fine... You know it all, go win another one.
But even if these guys walked into the arena with Scott's mom as the head coach, they should have had the pride to play better defense. That's not something that I think needs to be coached in games at this level.
Halfway through the 3rd this game should have sounded like one long whistle.

This is my biggest issue with him so far, the energy just isn't there. With Randle and Clarkson even though they are much different players you could always see that intensity. Russell just looks like he's been pouting since drawing limited minutes in the last game.

I think Hibbert's too high. This game illustrates what all those Indiana fans were saying about him playing small. He should have dominated the paint, instead our interior D was just as bad as our perimeter D.
I was dismayed with him this game.

Kelly was a straight C too... He made a couple nice plays but also got beat quite a few times... For literally everything he did good, he did something bad.

C really should have been the high grade for this team tonight. I didn't really see any bright spots at all.

We should pay Young not to be a Laker at this point. I dislike his broke ass game so much.

I don't honestly think he can keep up yet. He'll have his moments, but he looks a little too lost, and a little too physically outmatched. When he is trying, it's in a different area each time. Passing, driving, mid range pull ups, defence (or at least gambling for steals)...

It's clearly going to take him some time to put it all together.

The Warriors had a blue print to get there level back up for the final preseason game and the Lakers didn't know how to react... I hope this teaches the team a lesson or the season is gonna go down hill real fast.

Agree... And I'm worried there's an attitude problem on this team already... There seems to be a few guys that just really aren't that into what's going on right now... Young, Bass, and sometimes J Brown and Russell... Russell always seems like he's up-beat unlike Young... But he just doesn't seem that engaged. Which I honestly don't understand in a guy that age, playing in the NBA for the first time... He almost seems to be going down the Manziel path...

This whole Russell thing to me is quite weird. Not to allude that we should have taken Okafor, but since we did take Russell over him, and Okafor was considered as a sure thing, I was expecting that Russell had a big advantage in terms of attitude. Although he does have attitude when he speaks, it doesn't seem to show when he plays.

Anyway, hopefully Clarkson is OK and back in time for the opener. Really don't know what I'll do if Byron subs 5 in, 5 out though...

He's got a fairly steep learning curve to deal with and no real vets the last couple games to guide him... the whole team is so young and inexperienced as a unit we're going to have a lot of games this year where the whole show flies off the rails... If this type of play is still the norm around the all star game I'll be worried but certainly not 3 weeks into the preseason

My takeaway in this one really is the rotation. I mean c'mon Byron, player's skill isn't the only thing we want to develop in the preseason. Think he forgot about chemistry.

Dang D'Angelo...

1. His shot is mostly broken, but we know he can shoot. I think that will come around, but the inability to hit freethrows back to college is just plain bad.

2. It looks like he could use the Clarkson treatment and sit and think about how to play more. Clarkson was terrible to start the regular season, but seemed to benefit from the old school bench time. That being said, there isn't really a way for that to happen on this team and it seems like a waste for a 2nd round pick any way you cut it.

3. I think the summer league struggles, media doubt, and general lack of success has really messed with his head.

Man I was so furious with not drafting Okafor, but I've kept telling myself that a guy like Russell when successful draws other good players to him and makes everyone else better. I will keep telling myself that, but damn am I so very mad still. It will be interesting to see how this goes.

On a side note- I am still really glad for Hibbert. At times he has convinced the whole team to play D (something Scott only seems to preach, but rarely seems to teach). So I guess I'm going to keep my spirits up and hope that our future is brighter that a lopsided loss to the champs. I've seen some good things in the young core. I've seen some glimpses of brilliant young player from D'Angelo.

Tonight was a bunch of whacky platoon subs from Scott. If he does that in the regular season I will want to strangle him, but I doubt that is his intention at all.

I agree somewhat. But I'm sure playing with Kobe will bring his intensity up lol. And he's also playing the toughest position in the league so we should give him a little time. But I agree that he looks pretty slow out there, I'm not sure if he's injured or not but he doesn't look explosive at all. And his 3pt shot is absolutely brick.
