If we bring in Walton as our coach he'd probably have the inside track on Barnes' free agency, which would allow us to make a RFA bid without fear of having our cap space trapped.

They might not match if they're going after Durant....

Man, if the Warriors get Durant, I say forget about Harrison Barnes and tank for five more years.

I'd consider this a really dynamic team:

Conley
Russell/Clarkson
Ingram/A. Brown
Randle/Nance
Horford

We sign two prime vets who would be great fits next to our current young core. Conley the defensive spear, paired with Russell who will finally give him a back-court partner that will be able to take the perimeter scoring load off his shoulders. Ingram is the shooter that Russell (and Conley) are dying to be paired with. His length complements Randle's. Horford anchors the D and his mid-range shooting spaces the floor for Julius's bully-ball.

If Durant goes to the Warriors I like our chances at landing Westbrook, for that reason alone I would not go after Conley. I think we should max a wing like Barnes (assuming he would want to come), try to get a C (Horford, Whiteside, whoever), and punt enough cap space for 2017 for Westbrook (we can dump Lou + Nick to open up 10M more cap space for Westbrook). Guys like Barnes and Simmons/Ingram are interchangeable 2-4 anyways.

Good post. But I wouldn't want to stunt Ingram's potential by benching him. I was trying to move D to his natural spot, SG but pair him with a veteran defensive wiz who can do it all. Run a team, shoot the 3.

I don't think Durant would do that, but maybe he would....

Russell/Barnes/Ingram/Randle/Nance would be a pretty awesome young core.

Since there's going to be so much $$$ floating around this off season here's an article that gives some insight into how much money teams will have to spend.. Frightening amount of money, there's going to be a lot of guys getting overpaid just because a team will have to overpay just to be in the market..

maybe this will come in handy as a reference when discussing it all

Thoughts on Larry Sanders?

Minutes

Conley (32) Clarkson (16)
Russell (32) Clarkson (16)
Ingram (30) Brown (18)
Randle (30) Nance (18) Black
Horford (30) Sanders (18) Upshaw Sacre

Everyone stays healthy and fresh. Conley mentors guards, Horford mentors bigs. Probably better situation for the young guys than any coach could do. Conley is 28yrs Horford is 29yrs fyi.

The way the team's been competing recently with a semi-throwback Kobe makes me think how good the team could be if we swapped Kobe for a legit all-star in Derozan, booted out Byron for a real coach, and gave the youngsters 1 more year to develop. That's a playoff team in the West already. Not to mention we still have a max slot and then even more money to work with next year.

I just don't see Conley leaving Memphis, if their front office felt any kind of inkling that he was leaving they would have traded him by now. They aren't good enough to win the championship this year so why not try to flip him for assets if he is leaving at the end of the year for nothing.

If we trade Lou i think we should target rondo at around 12 or 13 mil i just think he could help Russell and Clarkson develop into better facilitators while simultaneously allowing them to be more aggressive scorers while he is on the floor.

Interesting turn of events in Atlanta these past few weeks. It doesn't look like Horford will be back next season if Atlanta wants to blow it up. I would love to finally have a real center to run the pick and roll.

I'm very ambivalent toward Whiteside. He's a hell of a talent but his attitude appears to be cancerous by multiple accounts. As desperate as we are for a center, I'm now leaning toward keeping him away from our young guys.

If healthy Durant and LeBron together may be unstoppable and I hate LeBron. But I would have to accept it if this happened. Good thing it's not going to.

I would Strongly consider the age of the FA and the length of their contracts.

I would go after:

1: Durant
2. Barnes
3. Batum

Pass on players 30 and over or close with long term.

The players I would pass on because of Age but should be very good the next
few years are:

Horford
Noah

I would focus a Strong Defensive small forward or big guards who can
cover the perimeter and then find a solid inside defender who can board.
