That is 13 signed players possibly 14 with either Coby Karl and/or Joe Crawford. Didn't Mitch say he is only going to carry 14 guys on the team this year? This pretty much means the roster is set with the 14th spot possibly going to Coby or Crawford (unlikely Crawford makes it unless he scores 20+ in preseason every game). It saddens me that DJ Mbenga won't be back most likely which makes me uncomfortable as Mihm is our primary backup. We have enough SG/SF so can we just resign Mbenga as our 14th guy instead of Karl/Crawford?

yeah its kinda sad that DJ probably won't be back..he always play his hearts out on the floor for us. i'm much more comfortable with him on the floor than garbage Mihm

I know we signed Yue, but I think he will still go back overseas or to the D-League... I think there is still a chance that Mbenga comes back...

Fisher/Farmar
Kobe/Sasha
Odom/Luke/Ariza
Pau/Powell/Radman
Bynum/Mihm/Mbenga

Still one spot open for Karl or Yue to make 14

Damn -- wouldnt it be great if we could dump Radman for a 2nd round pick like we did with Kareem Rush a few years back??

Los Angeles Lakers

SF:Odom/Ariza/Walton
PF:Gasol/Powell/Radmanovic
C:Bynum/???/Mihm
SG:Bryant/Vujacic
PG:Fisher/Farmar/Sun

Karl and Mitchell will end up in the D-Leauge

Now lets move on. I'm glad that we took care of the Back-up Power Forward position. Now we need to address the Back-up Center position. I like a few guyts for this spot:

Francisco Elson
Theo Ratliff
Jamal Maglore
PJ Brown

Ronny is better because he is a shotblocker but they are very close. The Lakers haven't really gotten better but they haven't gotten worse and honestly if they were going to try Odom again then they didn't need to do anything with Bynum coming back anyway. It's kind of like they signed an allstar Center.

I can see a practice C brought in just in case Bynum and Mihm are not 100 pcnt by camp, but don't forget Gasol is the b/u C.

Good to see Kup back from vacation before everyone got snatched up. This Powell signing gives LA four tweener Fwds, so they have all sorts of flexibility.

I think the team is set w 14:
6 guards (kb/fish/farm/sasha/sun/karl or mitchell)
1 sm fwd (ariza)
4 sf/pf (LO/powell/vlad/luke)
1 pf/c (gasol)
2 c (bynum/mihm)

I'll believe it when I see it because last summer we were all touting Ronny's midrange jumper and it never lived up to the hype.

Umm, what? Ronny showed he could hit that midrange J with consistency almost all season. It certainly never disappointed; at least not to me.

Teen Girl Squad wrote:Not that Im dancing circles about losing Ronny, but this is exactly why Mitch didn't overpay. There are more affordable guys that can fulfill Ronny's role. Powell won't make us forget Ronny but hopefully prevent us from missing him too much.

no doubt. the chicken little crap that went on when ronny left was pretty lame, imo. the lakers made a good business decision on not matching his contract for 10-15 mpg. hopefully ronny will thrive with the additional minutes and he'll get in gs but the lakers just needed to pay for a descent backup. any word yet on what powell's deal is?

From Orange County Register
8/15/08
http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2008/ ... it-factor/
Powell could be a second-unit factor

Plus, LA Lakers have signed 14 players, but expect to have 18 signed by training camp accourding to Mitch Kupchak. Dwayne Mictchell is the 14th.
Roster is still short.

Francisco Elson - Signed with the Bucks
Theo Ratliff - Looking like Philly

Magloire's still out there. So is PJ if he's not gonna retire.

Fixed.

Powell is a PF/C not SF/PF according to 82games.com

Getting to know Josh Powell.
An analysis by Ronnie Lester, assistant GM.
Describe Josh Powell on the offensive end of the floor.
Describe Josh Powell on the defensive end of the floor.
What does he bring skill set-wise that we don't have on the roster?
What was the number one attribute you were looking for in signing a big man?
People seem to be comparing him to Ronny, how do they compare and contrast.
