We offered him a 'Minimum Contract' according to reports... And he's seeing if he can get more in Miami.
I'd like to see him stay but I think for what we got from him last year, the Min is fair. If he blossoms in our system, he can always try to renegotiate....

Re: Mbenga Deciding between Lakers and Heat
Is Mbenga really worth a 3 page long thread. He's gonna be the third C on team after Bynum and MIhm and there is no guarantee he'll be on the team at the end of the season.

Re: Mbenga Deciding between Lakers and Heat
Chris Mihm of the late 2005 and early 2006 seasons would start on many teams and be a great asset coming in as a back up C off the bench but the key is his health and confidence. He hasn't played ball in like what 2 years now? Thats quite a nig risk but knowing that most C/PF minutes are going to get distributed between LO/Gasol and Bynum, I'd settle for that and what for the Zo sweepstakes in dec. Carl Landry would be a very sweet option right about now.

Bynum/Mihm/Mbenga is a solid C rotation for now, especially knowing Pau will still play some C minutes.

Re: Mbenga Deciding between Lakers and Heat
I agree KNO, for those trying to degrade Mbenga shows they really don't know ball. Yeah he's not the most offensively skilled guy but he give maximum effort on defense every time and didn't hurt the team when Phil had to play him meaningful minutes like he did in Utah in that last visit in the regular season.Kno wrote:Bynum/Mihm/Mbenga is a solid C rotation for now, especially knowing Pau will still play some C minutes.
And he's a much better shot blocker then Mihm and a decent rebounder. I think DJ will stay considering he has a chance to at least go on a deep playoff run again.

Truth be told, I can't remember a time when DJ was put in and he stunk it up. He has a decent close to the basket shot and his defense isn't that bad either.. Darn good insurance policy incase Chris goes down again...
Propz to Kno for the sig..

With Miami signing Magloire, hopefully we can bring Mbenga back. We could always use his toughness. The man's a triple black belt.

I say sign Mbenga now, if Zo decides he wants to come back, we waive whoever is doing worse between Mihm and Mbenga.

Re: Mbenga Deciding between Lakers and Heat
Why would Mbenga go to New York as an invitee where there is a good chance he's cut over LA where he would practically be guaranteed a roster spot. My only guess would be that they told him if he makes the team they'll pay him more but IDK.

Re: Mbenga Deciding between Lakers and Heat
Why are we having such a big discussion about whether Mbenga is coming back or not he is going to be the 3rd C on the team behind Bynum and Mihm.
