Who Gets Roberto Luongo?

Post#1 » by WEFFPIM » Mon Jun 25, 2012 4:24 pm

It will happen eventually, might as well get a thread going now, in my eyes.

Florida gets him.

Florida, Tampa Bay, Boston or Toronto are the odds on favorites for me. I can't see who else would be in the running for him unless Edmonton wants to make a splash this year

I can't imagine Boston being interested, and I would pass on Luongo big time, but who knows.

Florida and Toronto are front runners. I really think Columbus is a dark horse, in a Luongo-Nash swap.

Luongo to Columbus for Nash would be so dumb for Columbus.

Boston will go with Rask and Nash for Luongo would be quite a dumb trade. Though it is Columbus so anything is possible.

Florida stands out as the team with a need at Goaltender and plenty of prospects to make it happen. But doesn't Florida really like Markstrom?

It comes back to Toronto for me. But has Toronto totally given up on Reimer? And how well would Luongo do with the media/fan pressures of Toronto?

Sure would, but Howson is still employed so it's possible.

New rumour is that Luongo will only waive his no-trade for the Panthers.

In a reasonable world, Toronto would end up with Luongo. But in the real world, there's no way that the Canucks will let the Leafs have Lu for the price any NHL team is willing to pay.

They're rebuilding, so the point of taking on a 33 year old goalie signed for 10 more years with a cap hit of over $5 million makes no sense.

They should have properly rebuilt a couple of years ago, but they dont have a GM capable of doing so

You're really not going to win this. So because their GM sucks, that means he should suck even more by taking a gigantic contract of a player who Vancouver is basically trying to give away? Even though he'll only take them from a 65 point team to a 75 point team? Even though he'll prevent them from signing better players later because of his outrageous contract?

You are missing my point. I am not saying it is a trade that SHOULD happen, or even a good trade. I said that it wouldnt surprise me if it ended up happening. That's why I said it was a dark horse candidate.

Columbus isn't a candidate at all for Luongo IMO. It doesn't make any sense what so ever. They're quite obviously a few years away from doing anything in terms of a playoff push, and they're not going to spend that kind of money on a goaltender in order to keep their heads above water. They acquired Bob as a stop gap, in hopes he improves enough to keep him on as a starter long term.
