Blue Jackets and Islanders

Blue Jackets send center Samuel Pahlsson and defenseman Dalton Prout to the Islanders for goalie Evgeni Nabokov.

Why Columbus does it:

This was supposed to be the Jackets year but so far they've looked beyond terrible and one of their biggest problems has been in net and Nabokov will help them address that issue.

Why New York does it:

Pahlsson's become expendable in Columbus with the additions of Jeff Carter, Mark Letestu and the emergence of Ryan Johansen, but the Islanders could use him. He'll win faceoffs, help their penalty kill and provide some veteran leadership.

Dalton Prout is a big physical defenseman who's still a few years away. But when he's ready he'll be a solid stay at home D-man/tough guy.

Thoughts?

Columbus's goaltending is truly awful, but getting an old guy doesn't strike me as the solution. Their season is already effed, so going with someone like York to see if he can play makes a lot more sense to me
