PHI - Utah

Post#1 » by shottyj » Mon May 24, 2010 12:20 am

Utah Out: Kirilenko, 9th pick
Utah In: Brand, 2nd Pick

Phi Out: Brand, 2nd Pick
Phi In: Kirilenko, 9th Pick

Why for Utah - Pick up the 2nd pick and draft either Turner, or Favors. I think the Jazz might actually choose Favors to help in their quest for length. They also pick up Brand as a replacement for Boozer. Even in his current state Brand would probably thrive in the power forward friendly Jazz offense.

Why for Philly - Trade 3 years for 1 with the Brand for Kirilenko swap and retain a lottery pick which could turn into a solid player.

Who gets the better deal?

No thanks. We need more than a late lotto pick in any deal where we send out Brand, and we also don't want to go any further into the luxury tax.

It's bad for Philly because the chances of us finding a franchise player at 2 is a LOT LOT LOT better than us finding a franchise player at 9th (Xavier Henry?)

And the 76ers would officially be THE most STUPIDEST team in the NBA if they traded the #2 overall pick for pure cap relief and a possible starter

I think this is a very good trade for Phili, Im not sure that Utah would take on Brands extended deal though

Utah gets their SG and Phili sheds Brand in 11 and still gets a lotto pick

You say that like you think Brand has value. Philly has said they are willing to trade the 2nd pick to get out of Brand's contract. They are basically saving $33M by moving down 7 spots. Kirilenko is a good all around player as well, not worth $18M, but it is an expiring contract that will provide additional value at the trade deadline.

Really? I thought it was just Chad Ford speculating...

It was. Our board insider let us know before this foolishness started that there was virtually no chance of us dealing #2 unless we were floored by an offer.

Even before the lotto our front office was working to see what it might take to get up to #2. Thier target has been Turner all along.

And he falls into our lap...

You say that like you think the 76ers want to trade the 2nd overall pick and Brand for fair value, and not ripping the other team off.

My bad, one of the more versatile players in the league, $33M in savings, and the 9th pick in the draft isn't worth anything :-?

"My bad, one of the more versatile players in the league, $33M in savings, and the 9th pick in the draft isn't worth anything :-?"

You build up your team through the draft, NOT FA.
And in this case, Philly could get its franchise player in a position that just so happens to fill its biggest need and have a legit backcourt of the future.
So you can keep your "one of the more versatile player in the league", 9th overall pick in a 4 man draft and we'll keep Turner and Brand

Would you rather have a S&T of Boozer than AK?

I like the original deal though.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."
