The MIN side is not bad, but Flynn and the UTA 1st?
The standard offer is Telfair and UTA 1st, or more likely Ridnour if they are acquiring Melo and don't need the cap space next season.

^ True. Switch Flynn and Ridnour.

Re: Melo Gets His Wish - NY-DEN-MIN
It doesn't get DEN under the lux though, and with limited picks, I think that's a must.
It'd be best to ferry players like Azubuike to MIN, with the cash to buy them out, to save DEN from having to pay luxury tax on a player that won't be on the floor and will produce nothing.
In fact, it might be a good approach to add a couple teams to off-load salary. I don't think NYK has the incentive to do this with Curry unfortunately, but the less salaries coming back to DEN, the more value they will gain.
If I was doing the trade, I'd do it this way:
1. Start with DEN getting Gallo and Curry ($14.5 mil)
2. Add the amount DEN is over the cap ($13.2)
3. Find a combination of DEN players that are over $27.7 mil
17.1 Melo
5.7 Harrington
4.5 Chris Anderson
1.7 Balkman
$29 mil
4. Figure out the min salary NYK can legally send out. (29-.1)/1.25 = 23.1. The last group was $24.4, so that works.
5. Then figure out how to offload those four extra pieces (Randolph, T.Douglas, Azubuike, Mozgov) with cash to teams willing to sell some cap space. That shouldn't be hard.
6. Wiggle minor players for fit.
7. Viola! A trade DEN can live with financially (saving them about $25 mil just this year!) if they may be forced to trade with the Knicks, and that NYK can accept to reduce the risk of Melo going elsewhere.

Done for NY although it would have to be two separate trades so they can shell out all that cash. I would do this with Flynn or Ridnour and probably throw in a 2014 first too.

I have been in agreement with this line of thinking for some time.

Re: Melo Gets His Wish - NY-DEN-MIN
BTW.. does anyone know when NY can really trade their own 1st?
I thought the 2012 pick to Houston was protected through 2015 and thus they cannot trade a 1st until 2017.
2nd question.. can they actually trade a pick that far into the future?

Re: Melo Gets His Wish - NY-DEN-MIN
It seems like its getting too complicated on Minny's side. I dont see why Minny would trade Telfair for another PG, with Rubio expected to come this summer, they dont need 4 Pgs. And I dont know how Wolves fans feel about Hayward, but I dont see a reason to waive him just to fill his spot with Buike and Balkman, who wont get any playing time and are paid more than Hayward is. I understand you need their capspace, but after the Telfair & Utah 1st for Randolph, everything else for them seems pointless.
It look decent for both NY and DEN though.

I agree they don't need a 4th PG for next season, but they do need a 3rd for this season.
And, I know it's overly big, but it was done so to maximize Denver's cap savings. Denver's not getting the assets back they would from NJ, nor the cap savings like the other deal, and while they have to realize that, they are still doing to try to get the best deal they can.

It's sad how NY'ers think that 2 seconds will cut it when Denver is holding back on 2 firsts and asking for more.... just ridiculous.

1st off I'm a Net fan, not a Knick fan
2ndly NY doesn't have any 1sts to trade. Their 212 #1 to Houston is protected until 2015 acc. to RealGM thus rendering it untradable until 2017.
3rd, this was made under the assumption Melo will only extend with NY, but he would like to get his money now. This way Melo gets his money, Denver gets compensated, NY gets Melo for this season's playoff run, gets to resign Chandler and gets to use their MLE next summer.

MN isn't going to waive Hayward with two more guaranteed years on his rookie deal.

Re: Melo Gets His Wish - NY-DEN-MIN
How about this version
NYK get Melo, Al Harrington, Balkman, S.Telfair
NYK give Gallinari, A.Randolph, Curry, Turiaf, B.Walker, $6mm cash
MN gets Randolph, B.Walker, E.Curry, Turiaf, $3mm cash
MN gives Brewer, Telfair, cap space
Den gets Gallinari, Brewer, W.Chandler, $3mm cash
Den gives Melo, Harrington, Balkman
NYK: Gets Melo
Den: Doesn't get picks, but gets youth in Brewer, Gallo, and W.Chandler providing wing depth to replace Melo. Saves a ton of money on luxury tax. Gets rid of Harrington and Balkman long term deals.
MN: Gets youth in Randolph and B.Walker for their cap space. Spend a lot of money, but get $3mm in cash plus they only have to pay the remainder of the contracts which is smaller at this point of the season. They also keep their picks.
