I don't think Utah would do that. Favors and Kanter have both shown quite a bit of potential and they aren't going to throw that away with Millsap and Jefferson as trade chips.

Harden > Millsap, and it's not close.

Whether the Thunder are able to keep him or not is irrelevant. Other teams will no doubt trump the offer of Millsap.

Getting Harden for assets = throwing assets away. Yeah

OKC could surely use a post scorer (it ain't coming from Perk/Ibaka/Nazr/Collison), and given that Paul can do that and also play good defense and rebound, I don't agree at all that OKC can't use him.

I can see why they wouldn't trade Harden for him, even though Millsap remains a bargain and Harden is likely about to become very-much-not-a-bargain. Unfortunately I don't really see any other way for OKC to get him, since the players Utah would have interest in are all worth more than Paul is.

Maybe I didn't phrase that right. Kanter and Favors have both shown a lot of promise, enough so that Jazz management wouldn't and shouldn't trade them unless they get a steal of a deal. Millsap, meanwhile, has good value and could help a lot of contending teams...so, if we trade for another young player we won't be sending out any of the young talent we've worked so hard to get - it will be one of our veterans.

what has Kanter and Favors done?

Kanter yes is a rookie I will give him time. Favors should be playing way better than he is

I think it's closer than a lot of people make it out to be.

This ensures that OKC doesn't have to pay big for it's #3 option (basically they swap Millsap for Harden in that role, and I think getting a post scorer is worth it for OKC). Harden will get paid more than Millsap, so maybe the Thunder should get an extra minor asset out of this trade, but I think this kind of move makes a lot of sense for OKC.

Millsap is a pretty good defender, he actually could form a front-court with either Ibaka or Perkins, though it is a little undersized, it would be a tough as nails rotation with a well balanced mix of skills.

Then again, I am of the opinion that the Thunder should be looking to move Westbrook for a better distributing/floor spreading PG and keep Harden. I just fundamentally don't like the Durant/Westbrook pairing.+

Favors has made major strides in his offensive game this offseason. Once Jefferson and/or Millsap are gone he will blossom. I can see why OKC fans wouldn't want to trade Harden for Favors or Kanter, but it is just as unappealing a proposition to Utah.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's definitely arguable though that if you'd trade Hayward + Favors for Harden you get better overall. I know Jazz are building around their two raw bigs, or that's the idea most people have, but a core two guys of Harden/Kanter is probably just as good a strategy if not better. Many people see Harden as a perennial All Star, Favors isn't as sure a thing as him and Hayward is good but his ceiling is lower than Harden's.

I think an offer around Millsap for Harden to be competitive with what other teams would offer and what would consolidate their championship aspirations (or improve them) would be something like

Millsap, Hayward, GS pick for Harden.

Like it or not. AussieBucks is countering with take anything of my roster so you have to beat Bogut/Jennings/Ilyasova/Delfino for Harden/Perkins/Maynor/filler or something like that.

Most Utah fans would say no to that, but it would certainly be intriguing. If the pick or Hayward could be swapped for something else it is a definite yes for me.

Thinking Harden >> Millsap. Jazz would need to add value.

Utah fan here.

This trade is way too lopsided in the Jazz' favor.

As far as trading Favors for Harden, that's another no question decision. There is no way OKC is screwing a title run by downgrading from Harden to Favors.

Yeah, it's awesome guys. A completely new move no one has ever mastered. What he does, see, is catch the ball 5 steps from the basket then uses three of them to barrel into the nearest defenders chest while holding the ball in his gut. He's got "the look" thing down too and runs down the floor afterward staring sheepishly at his shoelaces.

Huge strides.
