Kanter and Favors have both shown a lot of promise, enough so that Jazz management wouldn't and shouldn't trade them unless they get a steal of a deal. Millsap, meanwhile, has good value and could help a lot of contending teams...so, if we trade for another young player we won't be sending out any of the young talent we've worked so hard to get - it will be one of our veterans.
Yeah, I get what you're saying. It's definitely arguable though that if you'd trade Hayward + Favors for Harden you get better overall. I know Jazz are building around their two raw bigs, or that's the idea most people have, but a core two guys of Harden/Kanter is probably just as good a strategy if not better. Many people see Harden as a perennial All Star, Favors isn't as sure a thing as him and Hayward is good but his ceiling is lower than Harden's.
I think an offer around Millsap for Harden to be competitive with what other teams would offer and what would consolidate their championship aspirations (or improve them) would be something like
Millsap, Hayward, GS pick for Harden.
Like it or not. AussieBucks is countering with take anything of my roster so you have to beat Bogut/Jennings/Ilyasova/Delfino for Harden/Perkins/Maynor/filler or something like that.
