Team Needs: Post yours (And a look back at last year)

So, with free agency pretty much done, it seemed like a good time to take a look at what each team needs. Last year we did this at the start of the season, but, now struck me as good as waiting.

So what is your team's trade needs, what sort of return would they be ideally looking for if the traded some assets. What position, what sort of player: stretch 4 or banger, defensive presence or low post option, and any salary restrictions such as no money due for the '13 fa or not over 9m as that puts over the tax, etc).

Let everyone know so we can all make better trades to you team.

Feel free and add what sort of asset they would be willing to send out in a trade, although that tends to diverge into a whole different debate as to the degree of tradability of each player on a roster (a worthy separate thread).

Also, if your interested here is the list from last year. Feel free to add insight into who met all there needs, who developed unseen holes, and who played whack a mole, fixing one prolblem only to have another emerge. From viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1149689

HartfordWhalers wrote:List so far:

Charlotte: Long term starters at Sf and Center. Backup Sg. Need youth, are rebuilding. Have expirings and Portland's future pick, can't trade own pick.

Chicago: A Sg/Sf shot creator off the bench. Have Korver, some un-guaranteed contracts, own and Charlotte pick, as well as Gibson and Asik that all could be moved if value is right.

Cleveland: Long term starters at Sg or Sf, and a starting Center. Basically a roster to go with Kyrie and Thompson. Isn't afraid to buy picks/talent by taking on bad salary.

Golden State: Backup Pg.

Indiana: Long term a starting Pg. Right now a Scoring Sg (off the bench). Backup Pf/Center role player rotation depth. Could be willing to part with a pick, and cap space.

Lakers: A superstar. Also a starting Pg, and depth at Sg and Center. Gasol and/or Bynum could be outgoing but only in a blockbuster.

Minnesota: A Sg. Ideally is a good defender and a good scorer. A go to scorer better, and an upgrade at Center. Have an unbalance roster with considerably amounts of players that could be traded, but highly unlikely to be Love/Rubio/Williams.

Milwaukee: A go to wing scorer, A backup Center. Has too many Pf's.

NJ/Brooklyn: Dwight, and a Sf, but needs to maintain as much salary cap '12 space as they have.

New Orleans: A long term starting Pg and big Pf/Center. Unlikely to flip Gordon, but most else could move.

New York Knicks: A starting Pg, a Sg (backup or starter) and a backup big (Pf/C). Have Fields and Douglas (assuming a pg comes back).

Orlando: A superstar/player that would convince Dwight to stay, a backup Center.

Philadelphia: Long term a starting Center. Right now a 4th bigman (backup) pf that can play/defend inside. Assumed to want to stay under the luxury tax which is 1 million away.

Phoenix: Go to scorer, starting Pf. Tradable players include Lopez, Frye, Childress.

Portland: Long term a starting Center. An experienced backup Pg. Could move one of Batum/Wallace for the center.

Sacramento: A shot blocking center.

Toronto: Young long term starters at Pg and Sf. Barbosa, and possibly a Pf from Amir/Davis/Bargs(?) could be moved.

Utah Long term a starting Pg.

Washington: Long term starters at Sg, Sf, and Pf to add to a Wall/McGee base.

List so far

Atlanta: A star. An upgrade at SF or C to balance the roster, but no contracts lasting past this season unless they fit the long term plan.

Boston:
Brooklyn:

Charlotte: Picks, backup big, 3rd string pg

Chicago:
Cleveland:
Dallas:

Denver: Offensive pf/c (with range). Available includes Chandler Koufos, Brewer, Mozgov, and Harrington (whose contract is half-guaranteed for two years after this). Also has $13M TPE and several picks.

Detroit: Starting Pf, vet pg mentor, and picks. Would like to do a 2 for 1, and preferably only expirings.

Golden State:

Houston: Cornerstone player and/or picks

Indiana:

Clippers: Long term an athletic sg/sf. Backup Center possibly, and backup athletic young sf.

Lakers: Backup Pg and Sg.

Memphis:

Miami: Center depth

Milwaukee:

Minnesota: A little more help in the post, a cheaper option at PG, or possibly another SG. Possibly could move one of Ridnour/Barea (after Rubio returns?) and Williams.

New Orleans:
New York Knicks:

Oklahoma City: Backup center if Aldrich isn't up to it, if Jackson develops MAynor is moveable. As always, questions about resigning Harden and Ibaka.

Orlando:

Philadelphia: Starting Pf, possibly a vet pg, and maybe even sf depth. Have Kwame and Hawes with probably only 1 needed unless Hawes really does work at pf. Can't trade a draft pick ever.

Phoenix: Starting Sg, possibly starting sf, backup center.

Portland: Long term Center, scoring sg, and vet backup pg

Sacramento:
San Antonio:

Toronto: Starting sf, and possibly center depth.

Utah: Point guard to build with, and a scoring sf. Al Jefferson is moveable.

Washington:

Houston: Power forwards. Preferably 6-9 or shorter.

On a serious note, still looking for a foundation piece. Dwight, Bynum, future picks that might become one. Not really focused on a position. Always looking to upgrade the asset pool.

Take Tyrus Thomas.

Charlotte: draft picks, backup big, third string PG, any possible way to offload Tyrus Thomas, any possible way to offload anybody named Higgins.

Jazz still searching for that PGOTF.

Could also use a Primary scorer, probably at SF. (Hopefully while sending Al Jefferson out)

Toronto is still looking for a long term answer at SF. Fields, Ross and DeRozan will all likely get time there, but I think they're all SGs.

I think adding another C should have been a priority but BC seems content with an Amir/Gray/Jonas rotation.

Phoenix:

There's no starting shooting guard caliber player on the team but Dudley should fill in this role for another year. But if you ask me, that's where our biggest hole is right now (right after starting small forward since I'm not sold on Beasley). Right now, we want to add a cheap backup center that doesn't demand much playing time.

Looking back at last year's needs for the Timberwolves (quotes taken from C.lupus' post in old thread):

A wing that can create offense and play decent D (preferably a SG)

Offense creator: Signed Brandon Roy, Alexey Shved
Defensive wing: Signed Andrei Kirilenko

A closer - somebody who can get that last shot in a close game (ideaally the same person as above)

Brandon Roy

Help at Center

Signed Greg Stiemsma

Roster consolidation/balance - lots of SFs and PFs on the roster, only 1 true SG

Rubio / Ridnour / Barea
Roy / Shved / Lee
Kirilenko / Budinger / Hummel
Love / Williams / Cunningham
Pekovic / Stiemsma

Much better...

There's still quite a bit of money invested in PG spot, but we may keep both backups until Rubio is completely healthy. Williams may be better used on another team as well. In return, we'd probably be looking for a little more help in the post, a cheaper option at PG, or possibly another SG.

Heat need depth on the frontcourt--> try to sign Kenyon Martin!!!

Chalmers/ Cole
Wade/ Allen/ Miller
Battier/ Lewis
James/ Haslem
Bosh/ Martin/ Anthony

This should be the upcoming Miami Heat depth chart imo...

OKC's as below

- get Ibaka more involved in the offense,Still need to give him more touches/shots
- figure out if Aldrich can play,Backup C is his to lose now with Nazr gone
- accelerate Jackson's development,Did ok at summer league, with full preseason we'll see. If he develops, Maynor would be movable.
- ask Perkins to play better instead of scowling & getting T'd up,Still need to play better and be healthier.
- pray Cook is making his 3s come playoff time & Now he needs to start figuring out how to make the lineup come playoff. With Maynor replacing Fisher minutes, his minutes should be continued to be squeed.
- cornrow Harden's beard.Somebody need to be more consistent.

Biggest Issue is resigning of Harden/Ibaka and trying to figure out what we'll do with our C salary moving forward. Still same concern.

ATL:
Long term: Star to build around.
Short term: Could get an upgrade at SF or C to balance the roster, but no contracts lasting past this season unless they fit the long term plan (aka, a star).

Clippers:
Last season it was getting SF help and helping Mo with talent off the bench which happened over time during the season.

Current-This off season the Clippers are pretty set people could say we need to upgrade back-up C but with Griffin/Jordan/Odom rotation we need players at back up that won't mind playing small mins. Butler and Hill are old some some insurance at SF to get young athletic in case they go down would be a bonus Terrence Williams would be a strong third string target for us for cheap.

Future -If the team had a priority it would be to get a young athletic SG or SF to go with the core of Paul/Griffin/Jordan/Bledsoe. Billups can only last so much longer and Butler is an expiring next year and probably won't be brought back to be a starter at his age so getting a young potential stud would do wonders.

Detroit need a 1st round pick to replace the one they lost in BG's deal.

They need a better starter PF than Jason Maxiell.

They need a veteran pass first PG/Mentor to Brandon Knight better than Will Bynum.

They need a 2 for 1 trade to make room for Ben Wallace since they already have 14 players under contract Ben Wallace and Khris Middleton to be signed.

They would preferably not add any salary next year since they have 20-25 million in expiring contracts this season and the possibility of use the Amnesty Clause which will give them a huge amount of cap space next season.

Portland still needs a long term starting center. Maybe Leonard is the guy, he certainly has that upside, but it's not proven. Actually, instead of calling it strictly a center, Portland needs a big (6'10+) to anchor our defense and rebounding who is able to play off of Aldridge (without getting in his way).

Portland also needs a legitimate scoring guard, someone to take pressure off of Lillard and provides a secondary ball-handler. Maybe Elliot Williams grows into this role as a scorer, or maybe Barton grows into this role as a playmaker. Again, unproven.

Finally, we still need an experienced veteran PG backup. Someone who makes other players better (not a combo guard) and knows the NBA inside and out.

Denver needs offensively skilled pf/c to compliment athletic but unpolished Faried and McGee. Ideally one with both inside and outside game and solid ft shooting, someone GKarl would call 'a smart guy'.

Has available choice of young, reasonably signed sf and c (WChandler, Koufos) or young, expiring sf and c (CBrewer, Mozgov) plus AHarrington (whose contract is half-guaranteed for two years after this). Also has $13M TPE and up to 3 1st rd picks in next 3 drafts, as they have their own plus NYs in 2014.
Needs to create at least one roster spot.

Okay, last year's list with a few quick comments in italics.

Charlotte: Long term starters at Sf and Center. Backup Sg. Need youth, are rebuilding. Have expirings and Portland's future pick, can't trade own pick.

MKG hits sf. Center is open, but Gordon and Det pick hits backup sg and rebuilding well.

Chicago: A Sg/Sf shot creator off the bench. Have Korver, some un-guaranteed contracts, own and Charlotte pick, as well as Gibson and Asik that all could be moved if value is right.

Looks to be a complete miss.

Cleveland: Long term starters at Sg or Sf, and a starting Center. Basically a roster to go with Kyrie and Thompson. Isn't afraid to buy picks/talent by taking on bad salary.

Golden State: Backup Pg.

Might be the only thing they didn't add between the start of last season and now? Not that I'm complaining about their moves. Edit: Totally spaced on Jack. So, they hit that too.

Indiana: Long term a starting Pg. Right now a Scoring Sg (off the bench). Backup Pf/Center role player rotation depth. Could be willing to part with a pick, and cap space.

Manhimi and Plumlee fill backuo bigs, and between Hill and Augustin might have a long term pg. Green for sg. Fit the holes well, but no clear homeruns.

Lakers: A superstar. Also a starting Pg, and depth at Sg and Center. Gasol and/or Bynum could be outgoing but only in a blockbuster.

Nash fits superstar and starting pg. And Dwight is still in limbo. Hill and Jamison fill some depth but sg depth?

Minnesota: A Sg. Ideally is a good defender and a good scorer. A go to scorer better, and an upgrade at Center. Have an unbalance roster with considerably amounts of players that could be traded, but highly unlikely to be Love/Rubio/Williams.

I'm somewhat skeptical of Roy's health (defense at least?), but definitely went after the holes wholesale -- see Klomp's post. Interesting seeing sf was not on the short list (Beasley), but Center was (Pek).

Milwaukee: A go to wing scorer, A backup Center. Has too many Pf's.

Well, Monta is a go to scorer. And Dalembert is a backup center -- I kid. Drafted bpa in a pf. Not sure how much progress occurred.

NJ/Brooklyn: Dwight, and a Sf, but needs to maintain as much salary cap '12 space as they have.

Well, they did what they could for Dwight. Sf with Wallace works, and JJ solves a sg issue as well.

New Orleans: A long term starting Pg and big Pf/Center. Unlikely to flip Gordon, but most else could move.

Assuming Rivers works as a pg, did exactly that.

New York Knicks: A starting Pg, a Sg (backup or starter) and a backup big (Pf/C). Have Fields and Douglas (assuming a pg comes back).

Felton/Kidd, JR Smith, Camby. Actually hit all those holes, but age/felton conditioning make them questionable solutions.

Orlando: A superstar/player that would convince Dwight to stay, a backup Center.

Didn't get the backup center.

Philadelphia: Long term a starting Center. Right now a 4th bigman (backup) pf that can play/defend inside. Assumed to want to stay under the luxury tax which is 1 million away.

Stayed under the luxury tax.

Phoenix: Go to scorer, starting Pf. Tradable players include Lopez, Frye, Childress.

Lopez and Childress are gone, and Beasley might be a go to scorer.

Portland: Long term a starting Center. An experienced backup Pg. Could move one of Batum/Wallace for the center.

Ah, the days before Felton stunk. Wallace was moved for a staring pg, and Leonard was drafted at c, so pretty on target.

Sacramento: A shot blocking center.

Went with Robinson, putting Cousins at center. Sf wasn't listed back then as a problem.

Toronto: Young long term starters at Pg and Sf. Barbosa, and possibly a Pf from Amir/Davis/Bargs(?) could be moved.

Lowry, and Fields. Barbosa was moved, and Ross means Derozan could help at sf as well. Nicely addressed holes.

Utah Long term a starting Pg.

Traded away Harris?

Washington: Long term starters at Sg, Sf, and Pf to add to a Wall/McGee base.

McGee is gone, long live Beal. Ariza and Nene fill in the SF and Pf for now, but at least to me, don't feel like long term solutions.
