Boozer to Philly? Bulls rebuild for 1 year

Postby Lin Your Face on Mon Sep 10, 2012 10:30 pm

(This trade would have to occur after Dec 15)

Chicago trades: Carlos Boozer, Richard Hamilton, Marquis Teague
Chicago receives: Thaddeus Young, Spencer Hawes, Jeff Pendergraph, Lance Stephenson, Indiana 2013 1st round pick

Philadelphia trades: Thaddeus Young, Spencer Hawes
Philadelphia receives: Carlos Boozer, Aaron Brooks, Blake Ahearn

Sacramento trades: Aaron Brooks
Sacramento receives: Marquis Teague, Sundiata Gaines

Indiana trades: 2013 1st round pick, Jeff Pendergraph, Lance Stephenson, Blake Ahearn, Sundiata Gaines
Indiana receives: Richard Hamilton

Why for Chicago: Chicago gets a decent young PF in return who could still improve, while also filling the void at backup center and saving long term money, which will possibly be very useful entering 2014-15. Chicago also gets a pick from Indiana and they will be bad enough this year that their own pick will be in the lottery. Teague would not be important in Chicago's future because they have Rose. Since the Bulls owneship is historically kind of cheap, I think they would prefer this deal to amnestying Boozer. The Bulls could also consider trading Deng to really tank the season and go young.

2013-14 lineup
PG Derrick Rose / Kirk Hinrich
SG ? / Lance Stephenson?
SF Luol Deng / Jimmy Butler
PF Thaddeus Young / Taj Gibson? / Nikola Mirotic?
C Joakim Noah / Spencer Hawes
+ 2013 Indiana 1st
+2013 Bulls lottery pick

Why for Philadelphia: Boozer will fit great offensively with Bynum and definitely improve their team overall. Brooks will also fill the big hole at backup PG and can play the role that Lou Williams played last season. While Boozer earns a lot of money Philly would not have any cap flexibility anyway unless Bynum or Hoiliday leave after the season, which seems unlikely.

2012-13 lineup
PG Jrue Holiday / Aaron Brooks
SG Jason RIchardson / Nick Young
SF Evan Turner / Dorell Wright
PF Carlos Boozer / Lavoy Allen
C Andrew Bynum / Kwame Brown

Why for Sacramento: Brooks was not part of Sacramento's long term plans and they already have enough high volume shooters. Teague will compete with Isaiah Thomas and Jimmer Fredette to be the teams PG or backup of the future.

Why for Indiana: Indiana adds a good veteran presence and their outside shooting at a low cost. Now that Hamilton is healthy he should be better this year and provides important insurance if Paul George doesn't improve as expected.

2012-13 lineup
PG George Hill / DJ Augustin
SG Paul George / Richard Hamilton
SF Danny Granger / Gerald Green
PF David West / Tyler Hansbrough
C Roy Hibbert / Ian Mahinmi

I admit I'm an irrational T. Young lover, but could Hawes contract really be bad enough to justify this?

This is shockingly bad for Indy. You can just completely get rid of this whole idea from Indy's perspective.

The pick definitely would be any higher than the low 20s so I don't think they're really giving up much for Rip.

Speaking of Rip Hamilton...

Not only can you not trade a player and amnesty him, but also even if you could, we already used our amnesty on Brand.

Boozer does have a terrible contract, but it is slightly unnerving that people think guys like Thad Young or J-Rich are some kind of prize.
