KOTB: LAL/MIN/NOH - Gasol, Ryno, Pek 3 way

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Thu Dec 6, 2012 9:56 pm

LA Lakers trade:
Pau Gasol

LA Lakers get:
Ryan Anderson
Luke Ridnour
Brandon Roy's expiring

Minnesota trades:
Nikola Pekovic
Derrick Williams
Luke Ridnour
Brandon Roy's expiring

Minnesota gets:
Pau Gasol

New Orleans trades:
Ryan Anderson

New Orleans gets:
Nikola Pekovic
Derrick Williams

Why for the LA Lakers? The Lakers have made Ryan Anderson their number 1 target for Pau so they'd obviously say yes to this. They also get a PG in Ridnour. Oh those naughty Lakers, always getting what they want.

Why for the Timberwolves? ESPN reported they reached out to the Lakers trying to get a Williams, Pek for Gasol trade going. This is pretty much that trade. They roll out a super Kirilenko, Love, Gasol frontline and try to make the playoffs

Why for New Orleans? Ryno and Anthony Davis long term doesn't really work because they're both PFs. With Davis getting banged up already they should reconsider playing him at center at least for a few years. Pek OTOH is a perfect fit playing in the post beside Davis. Robin Lopez is having a great year but he can be 3rd big. And they give some burn to Derrick Williams at the PF and SF spots

I just want to say I appreciate someone giving NO some value in return for sending Anderson to LAL. Every other deal Ive seen that has him going to LAL has been beyond abysmal for the Pelicans(just had to).

Am I missing something, what does Minnesota get for Pekovic and taking on all that salary?

They actually don't really take on salary. Williams, Ridnour and resigned Pek would combine for as much as Pau next year, if not more. I don't love the trade for them but apparently Kahn does

It was also reported that Minnesota was going to trade Love, #2, + for Gasol
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/740917-lakers-possible-trade-with-t-wolves-could-shake-up-draft-and-reshape-roster

It was bad value then, it's bad value now and has <1% chance of happening.

So...

The point is Gasol makes so much money, that any deal would be lopsided in favor of the Lakers, So if lets say Minnesota gives Williams, Ridnour and Roy, Gasol's real value, Pek is as good as gone, we cannot afford him, so he will either leave in FA or we will trade him, in this trade he is just a toss in to make salary match, an Minnesota gets nothing for him. Honestly, it will be hard to get anything for him as we couldn't afford to take anything of value.

Welcome to logic, this is why a deal of Gasol won't work with Minnesota as the team getting him.

Toronto makes much more sense and I could see where Minnesota may want to get in on a three team deal.

Seriously though, If Minnesota trades Pekovic there will be a revolt, and with Minnesota's roster there is no way to have Gasol and keep Pek.

So again what is Minnesota Getting for Pek and crippling the team with Pau's salary.

So New Orleans gets Pekovic and Williams for Ryan freaking Anderson? Is Hornets unprotected pick going to Minnesota?

Those 3 may combine to equal what Pau does, but then Minny still has to fill those roster spots. So its still costing them more money. Which is why it seems odd they get nothing else out of this trade.

And Kahn has apparently (according to media reports from anonymous sources) loved Gasol on the Wolves for 3 years now. And yet Gasol remains in LA. Maybe Kahn loves Gasol, but just not at the asking price LA has for him.

And I also have no idea how NOH gets such great value for Anderson.

Lakers getting the best of the deal again, adding a stretch 4 who fits very well with Howard and a PG who can hit the open shot and slide into a backup role easily.

Minnesota does covet Gasol a lot but the window for a Rubio/AK/Love/Gasol group is only a couple of years.

Does make some sense for NO.
