Would Lakers ever trade Kobe?

Postby ILOVEIT on Mon Jan 07, 2013 7:06 pm

If Dwight, Gasol and Nash all have issues with trying to play with Kobe....anyone think the Lakers would trade Kobe to keep the rest happy. I'm not saying they all hate him....but he's the same guy that couldn't exist with another big ego in Shaq....and it's likely he's trying hard to keep his alpha dog status now...which is likely a problem with Dwight and others...

What could anyone give for Kobe at this stage in his career.

Better question is :

Would Kobe ever allow the Lakers to trade him?

Can't trade Kobe (no trade clause)... But if he asked then yeah they would. It would be tough finically though.

Some teams would have to trade half of their roster just to match his contract, so no, probably not.

Even if they wanted to, they couldn't. No trade clause + 30 million salary = no trade.

Make it happen.

Would rather see him retire a Laker, so I hope not.

With Kobe's age and him having one more year..and a massive $30 mill balloon payment....and the " no-trade" there's a very limited market out there. Seems to me the Nets MIGHT be an option, for JJ and filler. JJ has a contract that's less next year...but then becomes the league's biggest for 2 yr,after Kobe expires. Nets would need to include at least $4 mill in salary filler. For Nets...while JJ is younger now, those last couple years on his deal look brutal. I'm not thinking Kobe nessicerily works out well jumping to another team with basically a year to blend in,but his main role is volume scorer and he's replacing a wing who was a scorer...so...maybe.

Why does Kobe agree to re-locate? Good question.

If by some circumstance that he wanted a trade and the Lakers are willing to move him, I can see Colangelo being all over the Lakers front office. He's desperate for a star and probably would be willing to give up anything on the roster to get Kobe.

LA out: Kobe Pau
LA in: Lowry Gay Derozan Bargs

Lakers would pretty much be having their rebuild early. in 2 years they'd start a lineup of Lowry/Derozan/Gay/Bargs/Howard

MEM out: Gay
MEM in: Ross Calderon

TOR out: Derozan Lowry Ross Calderon Bargs
TOR in: Kobe Pau

Again never going to happen, but it probably would take a return like that for anything to happen.
