Portland gets: J.R. Smith, Jermaine O'Neal

Phoenix gets: Victor Claver

NY gets: Shannon Brown, PJ Tucker

For Portland: gets 2 experienced vets on its bench for its playoff run.

For Phoenix: sacrifices Tucker to turn Brown's 3.5 per over 2 years into Claver's upside and 1.3 per over 3 years. Gets rid of O'Neal in the process without having to pay his whole contract.

For NY: NY has too many scorers and needs a defensive, tough-minded 3 to put next to Melo. Dolan can deal with Brown's contract. Perhaps add in a Prigs/Telfair swap as well?

Portland isn't looking like a playoff team or a quick first round exit at best. I don't think they are looking to gear up for a playoff run this season. That said Portland isn't giving much in value away, just kind of a weird deal. I really doubt JR Smith would be happy at all going from NYC to Portland, I could see bringing a pretty bad attitude with him.

I imagine JR would HATE getting traded from NY to Portland. I've never been a fan of his, but just on the value, I'd take it. I suppose at the very least, it opens another 1.3 in cap space for Portland, removing Victor, and assuming JR opts out.

Suns wouldn't trade Tucker in a deal like that.

How about this one? http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=aw5wb7a

Phoenix gets about $3m extra cap room and gets rid of Beasley.

As appealing as it would be to get rid of Beasley the Suns wouldn't want to be locked into a specialist like Novak. If Novak could be flipped for expirings then it would make sense.

I don't know if Novak can get a 2013 expiring but how about Linas Kleiza at $4m per for 2 years?

I'd probably do that.

Lol the Blazers aren't needed in this one. The Suns would trade Brown and Trucker for Smith.

I don't know about that. He'd sulk all season and then walk. At least Portland is a playoff team.

There is no way the Knicks trade JR for this package. His scoring is needed, his defense is good, and the Knicks don't need the extra depth.

Portland would probably say yes. I like it. It makes us immediately better and entails no risk.

No, they wouldn't since Smith certainly will opt-out of his deal while Tucker is signed for another year. Smith can't help the Suns and would walk away next summer.'
