you're telling me portland didn't couldn't get ronnie brewer for that same trade exception? brewer is sort of kind of better than maynor.

for portland, prefer maynor to brewer, personally.

Blazers needed to improve their guard situation, get another ball handler. This trade makes sense.

Hard to knock Portland, who has the worst bench in the league, for picking up a bench player for nothing. Love this trade for OKC though. Brewer can be solid for us and we stash a Euro that we will never see.

Ok, updated OP.

New York in: TPE, future 2nd
New York out: Brewer

OKC In: Brewer rights to Giorgio Printezis
OKC out: Maynor, future 2nd

Portland in: Maynor
Portland out: rights to Giorgio Printezis

Not sure New York's motivation. It saves money, but the future 2nd is pretty worthless. And its a useful player on the vet min, for a team that could be in the 4/5 seed game. Just seems penny pinching.

For OKC I now like it. But they didn't need a TPE for this. Brewer is min salary, he could be absorbed anyway. Humpff. I'm splitting this back up into 2 trades -- Brewer part here. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1235266

(That said, feel free to discuss as a combo here. :) )

I think NY did it to open up roster spots for waived players and I've heard they are interested in Amundson and Kenyon Martin who are already available.

I think because he is on a minimum deal, OKC didn't really need the TPE in order to acquire Brewer, so should really be looked at as two separate deals.

edit: oops, I see Hartford pointed this out.

2nd year was fully unguaranteed.

On the money.

NYK just signed Martin to a 10-day contract.

Maynor will probably leave in the offseason anyway, he's not going to supplant Lillard in the starting lineup and I think he sees himself as a starter. Can't fault Portland for taking a flyer.

The value to Presti sending Maynor to Portland is goodwill. Maynor has been a good player for us. He lost his backup PG job at least in part because he got hurt. He didn't bitch or cause any problems even though he's in the last year of his rookie deal and really needs to demonstrate his abilities/recovery in order to secure his next contract this summer. Wasn't going to happen with us so Presti sent him somewhere it would... with no chance of hurting us come playoff time. Players and agents appreciate and remember this sort of thing. It was a righteous move. Supports team chemistry.

As already stated, Brewer is on a vet minimum deal. Completely separate deals.

He's in for a rude awakening this summer if that's the case. I can't think of a single team that would want him as their starting PG. Even teams in desperate need of a PG like Utah would have him really REALLY low on their list.

Yup, no one's gonna give Maynor starter minutes unless its a last resort.

EDIT: OKC also got rights to a Euro from Portland. Don't know anything about him.

Greek league. Drafted in 2007 - this will be the sixth (!!!) NBA team who have held his rights.

solid move for both teams. portland's bench is bad, so maynor has a better chance of receiving playing time to restore his prospects to his former glory with portland than with choklahoma city. meanwhile, the thunder clear cap space and open up a roster spot to fill a need. solid move for them, especially if they had no intentions of retaining maynor, which this trade alludes to.

Giorgos Printezis plays for Olympiacos. He made the game-winning shot in last year's Euroleague Finals. He has been great for my team (I'm Greek) the last 2-3 years or so.

If he ever opts to go to the NBA I wish him all the best.
