Cavs | Sixers (Thompson/ Varejao for Bynum)

Post#1 » by WillyJakkz » Fri Jun 28, 2013 2:12 am

This is based on recent draft picks/ moves by both teams.

Cavs trade: PF Tristan Thompson| FC Anderson Varejao
Sixers trade: C Andrew Bynum

Cavs:
Irving| Waiters| Gee| Bennett| Bynum

Why: Cavs take a chance on Bynum for a 2yr period @ approx $14M-$18M to play for 3 reasons....
1. Develop Bennett along w Waiters as Irving progresses
2. Have a bigman like Bynum in place who if healthy forms a nice piece moving forward, bringing him along slowly for...
3. Tank for Wiggins or Parker or have pieces in place to make a bid/ pitch to bring LeBon James back 2014 offseason, all SF types leaving them w:

Irving/ Walters/ SF/ Bennett/ Bynum

Sixers:
Carter-Wiliams| Turner| Young| Thompson| Varejao (Noel)

Why: Plain and simple, they get some type of return on their investment in Bynum from 2013 so it's not a complete loss. Thompson and Varejao don't make the Sixers better to hurt their chances at getting Wiggins or Parker either.

Thoughts?

Or Cleveland could just sign UFA Bynum.

terrible idea to give up two good players for a UFA

Signing him as a FA hurts their cap, S&T will keep it the same, 2014 offseason Irving, Waiters, Bynum, Bennett are only guys on books offhand that I can remember.

AV has buyout in 2014 or 2015 iirc but if it's 2015 he and TT would still be on books.

C'mon, just admit you didn't know Bynum was a UFA...

Bynum would have to pass 11ty billion physicals for me to offer Varejao and future Memphis pick - let alone adding Tristan

If the Cavs do want to S&T him for some stupid reason, then Philly would want a 3rd team to take on AV.

Cavs counter by simply signing Unrestricted Free Agent Andrew Bynum and trading him for the rights to Nerleans Noel

This reasoning looks somewhat logical for a second or two, but in reality both Thompson and Varajao are positive assets, that could easily be traded to other teams for future picks and cap space. That would accomplish the same goal, but with more assets coming back.

Yeah, there's really no legit reason for the Cavs to offer any assets to Philly for Bynum when they can just sign him and keep their assets.

Heck, between Bynum and Varejao they might even get a full 82 games next year?

Uh huh. With the odds now that Bynum will be FREQUENTLY injured...his next contract will be considerably less, and, Clev won't have to decimate their front line.
CENSORED... No comment.
