Luxury Tax Space: $20,585,561.00
Tax Apron Space: $24,585,561.00

TPEs of $7,500,000.00 (Arron Afflalo), $1,422,720.00 (Evan Fournier), $915,243.00 (Alonzo Gee), $11,250,000.00 (JaVale McGee), $971,650.00 (Timofey Mozgov), $1,750,000.00 (Anthony Randolph).

Mozgov, Chandler, Fournier and Arthur are tradeable. They also have the rights to Joffrey Lauvergne (a 22 year-old 6'11" 240 lb F/C), who apparently is playing really well in Europe right now.

IF (and I acknowledge that's an if) Gallo, McGee and Robinson are healthy next season, they're tradeable.

So I don't think the situation is so bleak.

Current Cap Space: None. $15,744,359.00 over.
Maximum Cap Space: None. $2,328,178.00 over (if all options/guarantees were not picked up, all FAs renounced, no draft picks were to be signed this season, and all Exceptions were renounced)
Projected "Real" Cap Space: None. $5,141,721.00 over.
Tax Room: $12,938,510.00

How I got there:

Guaranteed Contracts (12): Darrell Arthur (opted in), Wilson Chandler, Kenneth Faried, Evan Fournier, Randy Foye, Danilo Gallinari, J.J. Hickson, Ty Lawson, JaVale McGee, Timofey Mozgov, Anthony Randolph, Nate Robinson (opted in)

Non-Guaranteed Contracts Kept (1): Quincy Miller

Restricted FAs given Qualifying Offers (0): None

FA Cap Holds (0): None

FAs Renounced/Players Waived (2): Aaron Brooks, Jan Vesley

Draft Pick Holds (1): #11 at $1,898,300.00

Expected Exceptions (based on my “real” space projection, subject to change): MLE Non-Taxpayer Exception at $5,305,000.00. No BAE because they used it last year. TPEs of $9,868,632.00 (Andre Iguodala), $1,659,080.00 (Andre Miller), $1,169.880.00 (Jordan Hamilton)

Line of Thinking:
Super simple. Arthur won’t see near that same money as a FA, so he opts in. Robinson is coming off a knee injury, so he opts in for security. Miller is kept, as there no reason not to keep him. Brooks was only traded for so they would have some kind of PG when Lawson and Robinson were both out. Vesley is done in the NBA and will return to Europe with his hot girlfriend.

They have a giant TPE to use to absorb a salary in a deal, and a decent draft pick. The biggest challenge is that beyond Lawson and Faried, do they have tradeable assets? Everyone else is either overpaid, hurt, unappealing, or all three combined. That may be harsh, but I don’t think it is far off.

How is someone going to do this whole thing when they obviously do not know anything about the players they have? I mean really Mozgov, Chandler, Galinari, Fournier, Q. Miller, and Arthur are not tradable? Hell maybe you missed the rumor that the Nuggets were offering Faried and Chandler for Love, and thought to be the best offer to that time? Or the follow up rumor a few days later once the Warriors reportedly caved on Thompson that the Wolves wanted Gallo instead of Chandler?

Also the Nuggets specifically targeted Brooks when they traded Hamilton as there were plenty of other teams rumored to want him, I am not so sure that they are going to let him walk away if they can help it.

One, this is all my opinion and thoughts. You are welcome to do your own if you want. I don't think I'm all that far off.

Two, all of the guys you listed have issues. I think Mozgoz and Chandler are overpaid for what they are. We have no idea if Gallinari will be able to play. He's been out for a year and a half now. If he can't come back at what he was, his contract is a disaster. Fournier is fine. I shouldn't have lumped him in that category. Miller is a minimum salary guy who isn't offering much of an impact either way. Arthur isn't worth the ~3.5 million he is getting paid.

Three, I said at that time those rumors were crazy. I don't care what they offered Minnesota. A team could offer a second round pick. Who cares? Faried, Chandler and filler is not the best offer. Not by a long shot. We also have no idea who said it was the best offer. So take that with a huge grain of salt.

Four, Brooks was only acquired because they had no other PG and no idea when Lawson would be back. Robinson was out. That was a strict "let me help you out" kind of swap for two players neither team wanted. The Rockets took the chance to kick the tires on Hamilton and have already let it be known they are moving on from him. The Nuggets can bring back Brooks pretty easily if they want, I am sure. I just don't think they will. Brooks has now been let go at consecutive deadlines and then signed for minimum deals. If anyone wanted him, they could have had him.

As I said before, you are welcome to do your own projections. I don't pretend to know everything about every single team. I'm not Zach Lowe. I don't get to watch every single game. If it was my full time job, I'd know more. But I like to think I have a fairly good handle on a lot of the stuff that happens around the league.

Please add your thoughts to where you think I am off. I'm happy to hear them. Just don't rip the work I put in, when you aren't doing it yourself. Or better yet, don't read it, if it is going to make you so upset.

I'm in the camp that Gallo and Chandler and Mozgov have tradable value. That doesn't mean you get someone better for them, but I think they are all positive for sure.

Fournier has always been massivley overrated, Arthur opted in because he will be overpaid, and Quincy isn't worth mentioning.

But mostly, these are a great series and I think that should be the starting point of any discussion. :)

Updated OP on 6/26 to reflect the trade with Orlando. Here is the fun part: Afflalo was traded for Iguodala. Iguodala was traded and created a TPE. Afflalo was acquired using that TPE. Fun stuff!

Pops Mensah-Bonsu and Joe Alexander have both left TC, don't know how that will affect your capology report, just an FYI.
