The thinking is management would want big 3 to opt out so they can attract filling out roster with younger role players for exemptions.

James: 5 year, $110 million
Wade: 5 year, $90 million
Bosh: 5 year, $90 million

The above contracts would make 2014 cap number like $50 million roughly.

My guess is they will convince Haslem to sign a new deal to lower his 2014 PO number of $4.6 million. That way he can retire as a member of the Heat at 37.

Haslem: 4 year, $12 million
Andersen: 1 year, $1.5 million
Cole: 1 year, $2.1 million
26th pick: Starting around $1 million

That leaves Heat with cap between $57-58 million, around $4-5 million to play with. They could convince Battier and Allen to come back at veterans minimum once over the cap. That gives them 9 players.

They could try and sign a starting PG for the $4-5 million under cap and renounce Chalmers. Lastly, they could use full MLE on a starting C.

FA/Cole/
Wade/Allen
James/Battier
Bosh/Haslem
FA/#26/Andersen

Just a thought.

It's time for Wade to do a Duncan deal. He has to take less.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Agree. He is oldest and beat-down and Heat is his team (so take the bullet)...in the sense he has been there longest, they walked from their respective teams to join him in Miami and one additional ring.

Plus I think what happens this post season has to do a lot with what will happen in offseason. But overall, I see Riley and Big three having something up their sleeves. Meaning, they all realize how hard it is to repeat and winning championships is the only goal. Enter the Big 4: Melo (or another superstar they can talk into it this offseason).

James: 5 year, $100 million
Wade: 5 year, $60 million
Bosh: 5 year, $80 million

I see the numbers like this, with Bird raises, and back end incentives that don't hit cap upfront.

All-in attempt to create enough space for the "help" they need for more rings. After all, all 3 of them admitted once they needed each other, could not do it alone, to win multiple rings. Now they admit it again and add a 4th.

I dont think James should make any concessions in terms of signing less per year. Ideally, if the Heat want the big 3 in place for 5 years guaranteed, they will want to create as much cap room as possible this off-season to leverage a 4 year deal for the solid PG. If the Heat can offer Lowry a 4 year deal at $35-40 million, he might take it.

Been thinking alot about this and I think Miami needs to make following moves:

As stated before...re-sign Big 3 for following

James: 5 years, $110 million
Wade: 5 years, $75 million
Bosh: 5 years, $75 million

SFA/Cole/VMFA
Wade/#26
James/Hamilton/
Bosh/Haslem
SFA/Andersen/VMFA

That leaves them with approx $8 million in cap room and Full MLE.

Inventory to spend on free agents
$8 milion SFA = Starting free agent (4 year, $35 million)
$5.76 million SFA = Starting free agent (4 year, $25 million)
VMFA = veteran minimum free agent
VMFA: = veteran minimum free agent

With those contract inventories, they could sign Marcin Gortat for that 4 year, $35 million contract and Shaun Livington for that 4 year, $25 million contract. They can fill out rest of roster with veteran minimum contracts.

As much as he should, he had to take a pay cut when LBJ/Bosh showed up. Also if Bosh/LBJ resign and Wade comes back at even 10 mil a year. All your doing is talking about a lux tax payment and why would MIA care at that point?

If Bosh left, Allen retired, LeBron signed at $16 Mil starting salary, Haslem took a paycut and Wade opted in, how much cap space would be left over?
