I actually think a deal for Boozer might make some sense. He can play PF alongside Noel for the year. Someone has to play there, might as well be someone who has an idea of what they are doing. Obviously, I am assuming Young will be dealt at some point. If they could get Chicago to attach a 1st round pick to dump him, or push them to attach a youngster of some value, like Butler or Snell, I would do it from the 76ers side.

Boozer and Butler would work. Not sure CHI does that, though.

I think Snell and a 1st would be closer

Clearing just Snell doesn't really help the cap situation enough though for the Bulls.

I think the most likely is Lin. I almost think that is a lock if the Rockets need space.

Smitty731 wrote:Updated 7/2 to reflect current standing

Current Cap Space: $25,825,522.00
Maximum Cap Space: $36,107,590.00 (if all options/guarantees were not picked up, all FAs renounced, no draft picks were to be signed this season, and all Exceptions were renounced)
Tax Room: $45,045,483.00

How I got there:

Guaranteed Contracts (6): Michael Carter-Williams, Arnett Moultrie, Nerlens Noel, Jason Richardson, Tony Wroten, Thaddeus Young

Partial/Non-Guaranteed Contracts Kept to date (6): Brandon Davies, Henry Sims, Hollis Thompson, Jarvis Vanardo, Casper Ware, Elliot Williams

Restricted FAs given Qualifying Offers (0): None

FA Cap Holds (2): Byron Mullens (opted out), Adonis Thomas (did not receive a Qualifying Offer)

FAs Renounced/Players Waived (1): James Anderson (waived)

Draft Pick Holds (2): Joel Embiid, Dario Saric

Current Exceptions: Room Exception at $2,732,000.00. No BAE due to projection of being under the Cap. No TPEs.

Eric Maynor needs to be added in. He had a two year deal and got waived. His 2nd year still is counted against the cap now. Also, as you know, the cap hold for Saric needs to be removed. Thanks! Great work!!

I definitely see a Rockets/Lin situation happening here.

Amare/Shump/Larkin? Might be a long shot but I have to throw it out there.

For what assets? They better be substantial...

I think he is suggesting that Shump and Larkin are the assets. Which is clearly insufficient to me.

A'mare/Bargs/2018 unprotected 1st/THJ for Thad saves the Knicks approx 27m. Don't have their cap number in front of me but that has to open up room for Pau plus someone else to help out Melo. And we all know NY doesn't do rebuilding.

Updated both of those items in today's update. Good catch on Maynor. Not sure what happened there. Brainfart I guess! :)

If I am not mistaken, aren't the Knicks subject to "repeater" tax implications this year? When people talk about the Sixers taking on Amare at the deadline - to get to the cap floor - it is not jus tthe remainder of Amare's salary that the Knicks save, but something like $45m in luxury/repeater tax payments...

Right?

So...if the Sixers save Dolan $50+ million, what should they get for that? Larkin/Shump? Really?

That IS ridiculous...right?

The right to swap the lower of the MIA/PHI pick (if the MIA pick conveys) to the Knicks for their 1st round pick, with no protection.

EDIT: don't know why the coding isn't working. tried fixing it. oh well. :dontknow:

Yeah...I mentioned that move over on the Knicks board...depending on where that pick is, that might be decent, but still - saving Dolan something like $52m...to move up maybe 3-5 slots in the draft?

Man - those are some pretty f'n expensive slots.

It's only going to cost us a third of his salary though so you can't look at how much we're saving them unless we get a better offer for our cap space we should take it. I'd love us to get Early as well since he's a SF who would never be able to develop under Melo.

Best case scenario: Knicks move up into the top 3, Heat miss the playoffs

Worst case scenario: Knicks make playoffs, Heat miss playoffs

Considering the first is the far more likely scenario than the 2nd, and it also accounts for the fact it's possible the Knicks could jump even the Sixers own pick in the lottery, I think it's a fair deal to eat the ~7m left on Amare at the deadline to get the Knicks out of the repeater tax. Maybe they throw a little something extra like Thanasis too, to cover the worst case scenario? :dontknow:
