Boston/LA Lakers Simple Swap...

Post#1 » by pja123 » Tue Sep 2, 2014 12:31 pm

Celtics get:
Jeremy Lin
Steve Nash
2015 1st round pick (from New Orleans via Houston)
future 1st round pick (from LA, top 3 protected)

Lakers get:
Rajon Rondo
Gerald Wallace

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CELTICS:
Ainge continues compiling vast quantities of 1st round picks to completely re-tool the team. In this deal, they net two 1st rounders, both of which could be high. Lin is a serviceable starting PG while Smart develops. Both Lin and Nash's deals are expiring, which give the Celtics two fantastic trade chips at the deadline or they could just let them both expire and enjoy having major cap space.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE LAKERS:
They salvage their off-season by landing Rondo. He and Bryant would make a dynamite backcourt combo and give the Lakers a legit building block. Rondo is seeking a max extension and the Lakers are one of the few teams that can afford to give him 100+ million. They take on Wallace's deal, which expires at the same time Kobe's deal expires, so they don't destroy their future cap flexibility.

Celtics say no, first of all a future lakers pick would have to be 2019, since 2015 is owed to the suns and 2017 the magic

and boston is not gonna trade rondo for expiring contracts and 1 first round pick

WEll the Lakers are going to say no too because taking on 2 more years of Crash plus giving up 2 1sts is too much to pay for a rental of Rondo when the Lakers still aren't a playoff team if they get him.

Yeah. Ultimately, in a Rondo deal, I doubt they're going to attach Wallace to him, because it dries up ANY value they may get in return. Lin/Nash/NOP 1st for Rondo/Wallace? Maybe, in a value "vacuum", but in reality, it may be worth it to Boston to keep Rondo and hope beyond hope he re-signs.

We didn't get the NO pick from Houston, we got Houston's pick. Also Lin would go to a 3rd team if he was involved in a Rondo trade. Them having Smart & Bradley is part of the reason they're willing to let Rondo go(if they even are).. They won't be seeking a PG in the deal.
