Lakers/76ers/Hornets

Post#1 » by GoBobs » Wed Oct 15, 2014 11:54 pm

Charlotte out: Gerald Henderson 1st round pick (unprotected)
Charlotte in: Dario Saric

Why: The Hornets probably won't have Henderson on the roster past this year if he plays well. If he plays poorly his player option could be a burden. They are banking on their first being worth less then Saric because they will make the playoffs again.

LAL out: Nash, Houston 1st round pick
LAL in: Gerald Henderson

Why: Henderson gives the Lakers a guard who can play good defense that can contribute while Kobe still has something left. If it turns out to be a good fit the Lakers probably wouldn't have much trouble resigning him. They aren't worried about his 6 mil player option with new TV contracts coming and are less convinced of the value of cap room after the most recent free agency period.

Phi out: Dario Saric
Phi in: Steve Nash, Hornets 1st (unprotected), Hou 1st

Why: Phi continues to acquire assets. If the Hornets get the injury bug and miss the playoffs their unprotected pick will be more valuable once the NBA's new draft system is in place. Nash mentors their young players.

How is it an overpay by Charlotte? Henderson is more or less without value. So they're trading their first round pick for last year's 12th pick. There is a tremendous chance that the pick they are trading in the 2015 draft will be worse than 12th. That doesn't even account for the differences between last year's class and this one.

For the same reason, the Sixers pass. Nash for one of the 1sts is more or less fair given the current price of 1sts. So then the question is whether the Sixers trade Saric for a pick likely to be worse than 12 in the 2015 draft. The answer to that one is obvious.

Hornets don't give up enough, and Saric isn't of much use to a contender like them right now.

Lakers give up way too much for one of the most mediocre players in the league.

Doesn't make sense for Philly...those 2 picks combined probably won't be worth Saric plus they have to pay the corpse of Nash.

I don't want Saric. We'd have to wait 2 years, and he's not exactly that good anyway. And for all we know, it could just be another Fran Vasquez clusterf***

The Lakers have Kobe and Young at shooting guard. Why would they need Henderson? It just isn't a need.

Cha should pay LA to take on Henderson and his contract.
