He has potential and I like him as a prospect, but for a guy that has showed absolutely nothing so far, he has got a heck of a deal.

It could be either a steal or a massive fail in a few years.

My other thought is that if *everyone* seems overpaid these days...perhaps that's just the new market now :dontknow:

Whoa.

I'm a fan of Burks, but that's a lot for a barely proven guy.

Utah seems to be committing a lot of money to a group that might not make the playoffs.

I'm guessing they expect him to play very well under Snyder. To be fair he's generally performed when given minutes, has improved consistently, and is only 23. And his numbers are bound to go up this season since he'll be getting more minutes.

Still, seems like an overpay based on what they hope he'll do. He's going to be paid almost the same as Favors..

Same here, but this could be a similar situation where Burks ends up outperforming it (probably not as much as Demar has though).

In the General Board thread loserx made a very good point that guys like Meeks got 7 mil or so last year and offers are likely to be higher this summer, so someone could have very easily outbid this contract for Burks.

And it may not be a glamour stat, but Burks is great at getting to the line, which is a great skill to have and is very coveted.

I try to make good points when I can...it's rare enough

I should point out that while I can understand Utah's thought process, I still think it's too much. That said I didn't think as much of him as Utah did on his draft day, either, and he's done better than I expected. So hopefully they're better judges of his potential than I am.

I actually think DeRozan is a decent comp.

Both slashing 2 guards with questionable 3pt shots (although actually Burks has been okay the last couple years). Both were basically role-players on bad teams at the time of they were extended (although DeRozan played a larger role with the Raps than Burks did last year).

I like Burks more than I liked DeRozan at the time, but I'm not a fan of either deal.

Geez...that is HUGE money for Burks.

GS might as well go ahead and give Klay his max now, because if guys like Burks are getting over $10M there's no way he doesn't get maxed.
