JR Smith to the Kings

Post#1 » by MoneyTalks41890 » Tue Nov 25, 2014 3:08 pm

SAC out: Thompson

SAC in: JR Smith, Aldrich

Sacramento adds JR to their SG rotation, and it allows them to move Stauskus/DWill for Millsap or another PF upgrade. Also gets them a backup C in Aldrich.

NY out: JR, Dally, Aldrich, Prigs

NY in: Perkins, Telfair, 2015 2nd

Knicks move JR Smith's contract and Prigs, who is good but cuts into next year's space, at the expense of Dalembert. They get back Telfair and Perkins. Telfair is an unguaranteed deal and he allows the Prigs trade. Also a local guy. Perkins is Perkins. But for a year at C he's not a terrible replacement option after a salary dump.

OKC out: Perkins, Telfair, 2015 2nd

OKC in: Thompson, Dally, Prigs

OKC gets a couple good backup bigs and a better, more veteran, 3rd PG.

I like this deal.

New York realizes this isn't their year and manages to both dump Smith and get a small asset back as opposed to paying.

Kings re-allocate some money in a way that benefits them more--tho I assume they'd rather move Landry?

Thunder add some real size and depth for nothing. Only question for them is does Thompson's contract keep them from addressing the wing in the summer?

Still, I think this deal is good on value and fit and directions and makes a lot of sense. Nice work.

No thanks. Knicks don't want Thompson or his contract, which longer than JR's.

Happy to trade JR for expirings though.

Derrick Williams for Smith could work very well for both sides - Kings give up Williams, who is basically out of the rotation, for Smith, who can light it up on occasion and be their 6th man. There's not too much risk.

New York gets that cap space for next year.

I'm not willing to give up Jason Thompson for J.R. Smith. JT is a fantastic defender and really a key part of our success so far. http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201574/tracking/defense/

PASS from NY. They can get value for Dalembert at the deadline as teams tend to overpay for rim protectors. JR for an expiring straight up. Some team will roll the dice.

JR Smith is more talented, but the Kings do not want him coming in and mucking up whatever they have going for them.
