TOR/DET
Patterson, Fields (expiring) for Josh Smith and lottery protected 1st round pick (2015, 2016, 2017)
Detroit gets rid of Smith's awful contract and adds a stretch PF who shoots >40% from 3pt range. This should open things up for Drummond/Monroe and fits the model SVG used with Howard in Orlando.
Toronto gets a PF who is a perfect fit if he can find his old form. He thrives in transition and is a defensive monster. He could be to the Raptors what Rasheed was to the Pistons (minus 3pt shooting) and make them legit contenders for the EC title.
Toronto also receives a future pick for swallowing Smith's $14M contract until 2017.
note: this trade can't happen until Jan. 15th, so it's just food for thought. A lot could change by then.

Re: TOR/DET
Smith has been pretty awful in Detroit... I don't see a scenario where Toronto gives up future assets for his contract. Maybe Patterson and dead weight, but it would be hard to make that deal for Toronto. The chemistry is at an all-time high... adding Smith might disrupt that.
However I do agree that if Smith limits his shooting and concentrates on D (like some of his ATL years) he would be a nice fit at PF in the lineup. Not sure Toronto would want to tie up $14 mill. on him though... might as well wait and try to sign Millsap in the offseason.

Re: TOR/DET
Detroit is going to be in the lottery for years with the team they have now. Toronto is the best team right now in the league and I don't think they want more picks that don't really help them out that much. They have 3 picks in the next 2 years and boat loads of cap space. If anything I think they make a strong push for one of Millsap, Harris or Butler in the off season and use their picks to get a decent backup 5.
Last thing I want to do is waste $14 million over the next 3 years for Josh Smith

Re: TOR/DET
Toronto doesn't do this deal at all. Patterson is more likely to play his role and do it quietly than a Josh Smith and the pick isn't that valuable.

Re: TOR/DET
If we get Smith and a pick, that's pretty intriguing... I would def look at that.
Giving up Patman and some dead weight contracts for Smith and a first rounder would be a pretty good deal for both teams. I'm afraid of Smith's attitude, but Toronto's locker room and on-court chemistry is so good, that I think Smith would buy in. As long as he understands that he shouldn't shoot as much (similar to the way James Johnson has bought in). Smith's D would be a bug addition to our starting line. It's risky, but it can happen, especially if we can get a future asset in return.

Re: TOR/DET
The pick is worthless in this deal for eating that contract/production. And we're going to expect this prima donna to all of a sudden accept that he's a role player at that salary? Unlikely.
This place is insufferable.

Honestly I think the pick would have to be close to unprotected to take on Josh Smith. I can't imagine Detroit would trade it to dump Smith, but I wouldn't trade for him without it. Lottery protection doesn't cut it, maybe top 3 otherwise no.
Smith has a horrible contract that kills our cap space moving forward and I'm not convinced he's a good fit. He could disrupt the chemistry we have and flow on offence, making the Raptors worse as a result. Plus you got the Raptors giving up Patterson who's a pretty valuable rotation big on a good deal.
The Raptors can do a lot better than Patterson for Smith and a heavily protected 1st.

Yeah, sounds like neither team would be too crazy about this. I wouldn't attach a first to move Smith.

Detroit can't afford to trade picks to dump salary.

I don't think Det would trade a pick to unload Smith.
I think they'd be looking to dumb him for expirings.
It would be a gutsy move by Toronto to take him on

I dont see Detroit making that move. Thats the BEST deal they can get for Monroe? A late 20s pick, and a raw C prospect?
This place is insufferable.

Moose is good bit doesn't fit here. He is a C and wants to be a starter and I question his defense. If The Pistons moved him for that I would flip him instantly for another PF that fits here like West and Copeland or something like that

Yes, Smith needs to go but I wouldn't add a first until this team looks like a playoff team. Smith will expire before that happens.

Toronto will not move expiring deals for a guy like Smoove making $15 million over the next 3 years that is bad.
We don't need Monroe he is a 5 and will not fit here and is going to get seriously overpaid by either The Clippers, New York or San Antonio

Yeah that would never happen, No one on the Detroit roster (other than Drummond) is worth trading for.

That would be an awfully big risk for Toronto. I can't see them taking it.
