Boston/Charlotte/Brooklyn/Denver

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Mon Jan 26, 2015 6:51 pm

Based on rumors of Johnson to Charlotte, Lopez to Denver and Boston rebuilding/acquiring future assets, ill offer this idea:

To Boston (trade TPE, 2 2nd round picks)
-Kevin Garnett
-2015 OKC 1st pick via Denver

To Charlotte (trade Stephenson, Williams, Neal)
-Joe Johnson
-Markel Brown
-Alan Anderson

To Brooklyn (trade Johnson, Lopez, Garnett, Anderson, Brown)
-$12 million TPE
-Javal McGee
-Lance Stephenson
-Marvin Williams
-Gary Neal
-2016 2nd round pick via Cleveland via Boston
-2016 2nd round pick via Miami via Boston

To Denver (Deal McGee, 1st round pick)
-Brook Lopez

Why?
-Boston acquires another 1st round pick while bringing Garnett back for swan song latter part of season.
-Charlotte gets Johnson without giving up Henderson who can start at the 2.
-Brooklyn gets younger while wiping its $15 million luxury tax bill off table, saves $7 million prorated in salaries and $14 million off expected cap for 2015-2016
-Denver upgrades C position in Lopez as Nurkic another 1-1.5 years away from being starter.

Thoughts?

Easy yes for us I think. KG would fill a role here, so he's not just empty salary either.

Acquiring Garnett I think would push them just into luxury tax by $100-200,000 if Im not mistaken. I would think Garnett would play behind Sullinger if the Celtics agreed to deal Bass at deadline.

Easy no from Denver. The fact that they traded Mozgov means this isn't the direction they are heading in at all. They want to give the kid, and possibly McGee, playing time.

Fair enough. I thought the Nuggets would be interested in Lopez (as per reports) in order to have a greater threat/offensive output in the post given Lopez's 20/8 per 36 numbers. I think McGee + Mozgov for Lopez and 1st round pick would be viewed as a win for Denver.

Acquiring Lopez (26.4 mpg) wouldnt effect playing time for Nurkic (20.7 mpg) on paper.

Frankly, even if they are interested, I think the Celtics get cut out pretty quickly. If people start throwing around first round picks in salary dumps, D. Will will get moved to Philly or Sacramento. No one is giving up a first round pick to dump a half a year of an expiring contract. Detroit ate the entirety of J. Smith's contract before parting with a 1st.

Nuggets took their time to get an extra #1 from CLE, not gonna just give it away for a guy who's probably no more than a rental. Sub Foye for the #1 and we're good

Value is good for Boston here but they'd likely be cut out

Well that OKC pick is top 15 protected for the next 3 years and becomes 2 2nd round picks after that. I guess I assume Lopez would opt into that $16.8 million PO at 27 and then sign a long term, 4-5 year deal at 28 when the cap goes up even more in 2016.

Meaning the Nuggets are likely to get the pick this year, and in case of disaster will almost assuredly get it next year. Also I would not be so sure that Lopez is getting another contract, he has a long way to go to get to his next deal and right now I question whether he will hold up to the end of this season let alone another season thereafter.

Last rumor that I heard had the Thunder giving up an out of rotation 3rd year prospect and an expiring contract, orior to that it was a headcase and the same out of rotation 3rd year player, I doubt any team is going to give them a 1st rounder for Lopez based on those trades being the reported best offers the Nets got.

The OKC pick is top 18 protected in 2015 so I assume it will be conveyed in 2016 given expectations that OKC will have a better reg season record next season.

So would it make sense for Denver to get those 2 x 2nd rounders from Boston based on value Nets are already getting and uncertainty with Lopez ?

Is Lopez + 1st round pick (basically lottery protected) for McGee + 2, 2nd round picks fair?

OKC is only 3 spots out of the 19th spots given how sorry the East is....With Nurkic on a development path and McGee looking to be back to back him up. We'll keep the 1st, let Nurkic get better and trade McGee or let him expire off our cap for 2016 offseason. Brooks isn't that important to us,

Cool, nice to get a good perspective from Nuggets fan.
