GSW/MIN/PHI

Post#1 » by Note30 » Wed Feb 25, 2015 8:55 am

GSW sends

David Lee
Andre Igoudala
GSW 2015 1st

for MINS

Kevin Martin
Nikola Pekovic
Gary Neal (S&T @ 2 Mill)

PHI receives
Budinger
Bennett
GSW 1st

Salary dump Igoudala and Lee for cheaper contracts to pay for Greens extension. The only missing factor will be Igoudalas defense for the Warriors.... buuut they get way more offense from KMart who is another amazing 3pt shooter.

Wolves solidify the wings and get a secondary facilitator, clearing up the frontcourt so Lee can play his 20 minutes here instead of at Golden State. Allows Towns/Okafor/ etc to play the 5 with more minutes. All that would remain to do would be to dump Budinger and Bennett in some cabin in the woods.

PHI takes a flier on Bennett and gets a 1st for Budinger.

Some pros and cons I'm seeing with this:

Pros - Pekovic as insurance center for Bogut, Budinger gets more playing time
Cons - Unless Rush and Barbosa are shipped as well, it gets overcrowded at the SG position with Martin and Neal in GS. Another is Iggy eating some of Wiggins' and Shabazz' playing time (means slower development for those two)

My take on this:
Golden State gets Kevin Martin and Nikola Pekovic
Minnesota gets David Lee and Andre Iguodala
Philly gets Chase Budinger, Leandro Barbosa, Anthony Bennett, GSW 2015 1st, and Minnesota's earliest 2nd rounder

Does Rush even play? Couldn't you push Klay down to the 3? GS offense seems to predicated on high post cuts and 3's. Any wing could do that. Could just toss in Rush to MIN to even out the deal, MIN will just waive him. Neal is just an insurance piece. Wiggins would play the 2, and Iggy would play the 1 in the second unit and 3 in the starting for the Wolves

Would look like

Rubio (32)/ Iggy (16) / LB
Wiggins (28)/LaVine (20)
Iggy (10)/ Bazz (30)/ Wiggins (8) / GRIII
KG (20) / Payne (20) / Dieng (8) / RH
Towns (32) / Dieng (16) /2nd rounder

The only thing holding this trade from ever happening is the defensive dropoff Golden State would be getting from Iggy to KevMart

True. But KMart's ability to shoot the 3 and create offense might just make GS look the other way.

BTW, does Philly send out draft rights in this trade? I can only see them getting Budinger, Bennett, Barbosa, and the 2 draft picks

But, if I'm not mistaken, in any trade every team involved should be getting at least something. Maybe have Philly send out a distant 2nd round pick?

Sure. Just whatever pick would be irrelevant.

Summing it all out, the trade looks like this:

Golden State gets Kevin Martin, Nikola Pekovic, Philly 2017 2nd
Minnesota gets David Lee and Andre Iguodala
Philadelphia gets Chase Budinger, Anthony Bennett, GSW 2015 1st

How about bringing Iggy back home to Philly?

I still think the best trade between Warriors and Wolves is...

GSW recieves: Pek + KMart

Wolves receive: Lee + GSW filler (Ezeli, or Rush or ?) + best available 1st from 3rd team

Third Team: Barnes (Wolves could include Bennett or Payne and/or 2nd rd pick to increase value of 1st sent out)

Working off Embiid rumor...

-Assuming Okafor and Towns off board and Embiid checks out medical wise with flying colors

GSW receives: Pek + Martin

Wolves receive: Lee + Rush + Embiid + OKC 1st owed 76ers

76ers receive: Barnes + Bennett + Wolves top 5 pick

Wolves get huge expiring in Lee (may buy him out), Embiid to pair with Wiggins, and still get a 1st in this draft.

76ers get youth and 2 top 5 picks: Russell or Mudiay with their own pick and player of choice with Wolves pick.

GSW get Pek-Bogut rotation and super 6th in Martin.

Don't think GS would accept the OP or any of the variations proposed here. Martin doesn't fit what we do, and I don't see us giving Barnes or a pick for Pek.

Can't see GSW having any interest in Pekovic as they have Bogut under a large contract for 2 more seasons. Martin doesn't fill a need on the Warriors either.

Neal needs to be taken out - he's a FA, you can't add July S&T deals with June picks (I keep ranting about this every year but people keep posting them). Also - he'd be deep bench on GS - and one way I'm sure GS goes cheap next year is that their deep bench will be min salary players (and still hopefully better than Neal).

If GS does decide to go cheap, then a Martin/Iggy + 2015 1st isn't completely nuts. I'd hope that the team just spends big but it's at least plausible.

I don't like the Lee/Pekovic part at all though. Pek adds an extra year over Lee - possibly pushing them into the luxury tax again for 2016-7. GS uses their bigs for high-post passing - not Pek's style. I also don't trust Pek to be healthy when needed, or to by happy as a bench big when Bogut's healthy.

Easy "no" from the Warriors.

We don't need a $12M center who is around primarily to be a back-up or insurance policy..... and not fitting the system.

We likewise wouldn't be interested in Martin, who is a nice shooter but a major defensive liability, at the expense of Iguodala. A lot of folks don't seem to realize how much ball-handling Iguodala does when Curry's out of the game - he and Livingston effectively share the PG role, so in addition to his defensive acumen, he has a significant, albeit non-scoring, role with the offense.

Easy "no" from us. We'll either trade Lee this summer for some salary relief, or we'll just pay the tax in 2015-16, and get out of it when the cap goes up in the summer of 2016.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

No. Philly isn't moving Embiid, and definitely not in this deal. Embiid is a better prospect than the top 2 in this draft (minus injury red flag) I could see the smallest possibility of Embiid being moved for one of the top 2 bigs... but definitely not any prospect after that unless their are future firsts coming back or something much better than that deal.
