Maybe the Lakers would make more sense with this trade

Getting a top 5 pick for Parker is the problem. Not that you tried the Knicks instead of the Lakers.

I agree with this, btb. I was just saying the Knicks may trade the pick for a third star if they don't have enough cap space for two signings. I don't think Tony, Melo and say Gasol would be a bad fit together. Just not in the Triangle.

Anyway Parker isn't worth a top-five pick. Best I could see him getting is the Kings' pick, and that's only because they seem keen to build quickly. I'd take anything above 10 and run if I were the Spurs, though I've thought that even when it ended up looking foolish later on.

For some reason, I can't get it out of my head that Parker and Melo are two pieces of a 2008 Celtics--style Big Three. Just can't figure out who that third piece would be.

This is terrible. Maybe if it were Leonard instead of Parker and Diaw, but I'm not sure anyone trades a 1st in the late teens for Parker and that extension at this point.

No...I love the Spurs, but Parker's too injured and inconsistent these days, and that pick is really our only lifeline for the future beyond free agency.

Only thing that gets the Knicks to move that pick is Leonard (and I know that's likely a non-starter from an SAS POV.)
