Atlanta- need these spare parts?

Post#1 » by Hawk Eye » Sun May 3, 2015 4:00 am

I was looking at a way to create more cap space for the Hawks this off season than what they already will have. Some guys that are expandable and will still be under the salary book are as follows:

Mike Scott- this dude can get incredibly hot and pop 3 or 4 Korver like 3's right in your face. The dude is probably the most streaky shooter on our roster but when he gets going..watch out. He's a floor spacing face up big that has those nifty hooks and fadeaways at the rim.

Salary for next season = $3,333,333

Shelvin Mack- your average Joe backup PG. does nothing excellent but does all the little things that count.

Salary for next season = $2,433,333

Kent Bazemore- probably the most athletic dude on our roster. High flyer, great man 2 man defender, and a slightly above average cutter. Really started hitting the corner 3's consistently post all star break (even though he hasn't hit any in the playoffs so far).

Salary for next season = $2,000,000

If I had to rank these guys in order of importance to our team it would be

1. Bazemore (we are thin at the wings due to the loss of Thabo)
2. Scott (can't go wrong with a stretch 4)
3. Mack (rarely gets playing time due to the development of Dennis)

So if the Hawks were looking to create more cap space would any of these guy be of any interest via trade? The guy I want to cut ties with most is Mack as I would prefer to sign a veteran PG to our team to mentor Schröder.

My sense is you're pretty much giving these guys away if you want cap? I don't think they're getting you a pick. Scott probably has the most market as a stretch four. Maybe Martin or straight cap for Scott if Monroe walks and we strike out in free agency?

I'd take Scott as a third stringer for sure. I like Bazemore too.

Are we getting anything for Mack? Like protected 2nds or just pure cap space? I'd be fine with either one actually. Then ATL could sign a veteran PG like prigioni, Jameer, Andre Miller, etc. to mentor Schröder.

I would like to hold out hope that Scott or Bazemore could at the very least return a couple of 2nds or one high 2nd. Mack I would dump for pure cap space though.

As a Mav fan, I like the idea of adding Mack. He seems like the kind of guy Carlisle can work with and we are hurting at the PG position.

I would be fine with Felton + cash + 2nd rounder or cap space + 2nd rounder.

I like Bazemore too, but I think Atl would be better off keeping him unless you need cap space.

I would do that ^

Mavs get added PG depth

Hinkie continues his quest to collect every pick in the 2nd round thus renaming it "The Hinkie Round"

Atlanta gets added cap space to sign a veteran PG to mentor Schröder.

I'm sure the Celtics would have some interest in Mack if he comes cheap. Depends on what happens with Pressey.

I mean I like saving a little money so its okay if the incentive is cheap--tho Atlanta should be helping to provide it in this deal imo.

Still leaves Dallas with a backup PG and two guys who are probably closer to 3rd stringers in Mack and Barea(I feel almost certain he's back) and no starter. But that's where we already are with Felton....

I personally like Mack, Scott and Bazemore a lot and would happily take all three in Utah. But to be honest the only one we really have minutes for is Mack.
