Really wanted him on the Spurs. Sad that the Knicks got him so cheaply. I think New York has made smart trades since the Chandler deal.

The Magic will receive cash considerations and the right to swap second-round draft picks with the Knicks in 2019, sources said.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--knicks-land-kyle-o-quinn-in-sign-and-trade-deal-074225724.html

Important note -- The Knicks do not have their 2019 2nd (Philly does).

So the swap is either on:

2019 second round draft pick from Cleveland
Cleveland's 2019 2nd round pick to New York [Cleveland-New York-Oklahoma City, 1/5/2015]

2019 second round draft pick from Houston
Houston's 2019 2nd round pick to New York [Houston-New York, 2/19/2015]

http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

{I'm really not seeing orlando gain much if any value in that.}

Orlando does get a TPE out of it (which is valuable).

NYK's offseason has been kinda meh. Porzingis is the only possible difference maker they have added. The other pieces are ok for improving wins to maybe try to win around 30 is things break right for NY.

they never where going to add a superstar right away, but they have gotten good, solid young pieces (i mean Lopez is only 27) that have a reasonable future and can grow. The only thing they need is a S.G and they could at least make the playoffs in the east

If it were a team option on year 2 I would feel very different, but basically they are giving him a free trial at a decent price and risking the downside when next year they would have cap, while giving him back the upside on the player option.

Pretty good. 4 million is practically nothing and the Knicks will have him on that tiny contract for 3 years in the new CBA.

yeah that part i didn't get. they should have gotten him for a 2 year deal with a team option after the first, i figure they'll just deal him off if they don't like what they see (they must be confident they could do that), or they are super confident he can provide something positive(betting Phil Jackson saw something in him to give him that deal)

I like this one too. Like you gents I wasn't a fan of the *terms* of the Williams deal, but at least the last two FAs they've pursued have been guys coming off their rookie contracts. I'm sure some people feared that the Knicks would start throwing "panic maxes" at guys aged 30+ but instead they've picked a sensible direction. Not a bad offseason at all in MSG.

I love this pickup for the Knicks. I think O'Quinn has a chance to be one of the better backup centers in the league. He did well for the Magic. They tried him some at PF, which he isn't really cut out for defensively. But when they kept him at C, he was fine. He's a banger on both ends and has a somewhat reliable jumper from about 15 feet or so. And for an average of 4 million a year, that is a steal for a solid backup C.

The Magic didn't have room for him anymore, and they like Dedmon as the backup C. Dedmon is cheaper and with the extension for Vucevic and the re-signing of Harris, the Magic are a little tighter against the Cap than in years past. Picking up an asset for a guy the Magic were likely to lose anyway is just smart business.

Overall, well done on both sides.

Yeah now they're giving $4 million a year to a guy who rarely played for the Magic.

Agree with HW, with the exception of Williams NY has done outstanding imo.

Quinn is ok but it's funny the Knicks fans thought they were gonna get Marc Gasol and LMA.
