Draft redux: Vonleh + 9 = ???

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Wed Jul 29, 2015 1:09 am

The Lowe piece claims Charlotte tried to package Vonleh and #9 to move up. Potential takers?

I bet they were trying to get into the top 3 and if that's the case everything in the top 3 was better

I could see them dangling that package to Orlando with them targeting a shooter in Hezonja.

But Henny probably wanted a future pick or more incentive, Vonelh is not the difference between 9 to 5

You don't think Vonleh and Winslow/Booker would be worth the 5th pick?? Not that the offer was actually out there but i would think thats close to value no doubt

Vonleh, mkg, and winslow for 3 and like 35 overall would be closer or maybe throw in 2016 okc 1st as well.

To Knicks: Smart + Vonleh + 16 + 28

To Celtics: 9 (they get that 9 pick they wanted)

To Hornets: 4 + Calderon (after all they signed Lin to be backup PG, Calderon would have served a purpose)

Lol in what world?

MKG + Vonleh + 9 for 3 and 35 is as far off as Okafor for 9 is...
It might seem like fair value to Philly but it's beyond atrocious for CHA.

For Vonleh + 9, they could've got 5 or 6 at least.

9+Vonleh+Henderson into Batum + Kaminsky

vs.

9+Vonleh+MKG into #3 (Okafor)...

I think the choice is pretty simple. I keep Batum, MKG, Kaminsky over Okafor & Henderson every day of the week.

They should have just done the Portland deal and the deal with Boston and could have come away with this:
Batum
#15
#16
Brooklyn 2018 unprotected
Memphis 2018 top 12 protected

I'm surprised they couldn't work out something with the Knicks at No. 4.

Close but certainly not enough.

Winslow fell for a reason and more than likley is the same reason why Vonelh fell in the draft.

Everyone was calling Vonelh the STEAL of the draft and that Charlotte won the draft but traded him for a 1 yr rental of Batum and barely seen any playing time even when he was healthy.

Hopefully Winslow pans out as I'm a big fan and was actually high on him but facts are facts and he's still a undersized SF that needs a lot of work on his shot, Orlando doesn't need quantity right now as much as they need quality.

The thread really could have stopped here.

But in reality they could easily have traded #9 for the Boston package. Traded Vonleh for Batum as they did. Trade 15 and the Memphis pick to Miami for 10 which with Winslow off the board I imagine they'd do. And now they have the guys they wanted:

Frank the Tank
Nik Batum

PLUS

Sam Dekker or Jerian Grant or Bobby Portis or whomever they like at 16
unprotected 2019 BKN 1st

Even though I'm a big fan of Hezonja, I think the Knicks and Magic are dumb for turning this down, if it was offered. Vonleh and Winsloe are a better option than Porzingis/Hezonja imo.

I respectfully disagree.

You don't trade elite prospects for multiple mediocre ones. Orlando already has a 6'4" shooting guard in Victor Oladipo that is light years ahead of Winslow and also already has a better option at the PF spot than Vonelh with Aaron Gordon.

Hezonja fills an immediate need with his shooting, size, athleticism and most importantly his readiness.

I also think Knicks did the right decision assuming this trade was offered to them as well.
