More trade value: Oladipo vs Beal

Post#1 » by Mykhyn » Thu Nov 26, 2015 7:41 pm

A post in another thread made me curious on peoples values on Oladipo and Beal.

Oladipo has another year on his rookie contract.

Beal is the better scorer.

Whats your opinion of their respective values?

Contract situation aside, Beal is far more valuable. Strong shooter, above average defender, and still incredibly young. Oladipo is the superior defender and has a little more potential as a lead ball handler, but that's about it.

This is easy. Hurt or not. Can play at 100% or not. Doesn't matter who pg is. Beal has always been the sg on his team. Either that says the team is pushing him no matter what. Or he is talented enough to stay on the floor. That's pretty much how I grade this.

Not sure I would take Oladipo over Porter let alone Beal

Oh come on, Oladipo does literally everything better than Porter.

On topic,

Clearly Beal is the better shooter and finisher. However, Oladipo is the better ball handler, passer, rebounding and defense overall. It's close, but I'd still take Beal.

I voted Beal by a mile...impulse. thinking it over its closer than that but still has a fair bit more value. he is younger and better.

This is almost too easy, you're probably a Magic fan if you choose Dipo. Majority of Magic fans would prefer Beal too I'm guessing. Sure Dipo can handle the ball but he isn't a good distributor or scorer.

Voted Beal by a lot

Porter Jr is a year younger than Oladipo, and the biggest thing is he can score efficiently without being ball dominant (and is even drawing fouls better than VO), and contributes all around in the boxscore as well. He's a very smart PnR passer and does a lot of little things efficiently

Defensively he's 6'9 with a 7'1 wingspan, and has the ability to guard 1-4. I agree , Porter will be more valuable than Dipo, many Wiz fans value him even over Beal.

Voted Dipo but close due to contract upcoming. That said, I didn't realize Beal was younger. Beal is the better player, but I still haven't seen enough to feel like he's worth what he's asking for, Dipo has extra time to prove it.

Give me Oladipo, though it's not by a whole lot.

Beal and if Dipo can't find a consistent jumper by end of his third year, Beal by a considerable amount.

Speaking of Magic and Wizards what do you guys think of Porter for Noel? Wizards like Porter but with Wall and Beal as perimeter players, getting a core player in the frontcourt would help balance them. PHI moves some talent away from the C position and to the wing. The fit with Covington isn't the best but Porter would be more important I'd presume

If you could turn injuries off ala nba2k, the Beal is better by a mile. Currently, beal is slightly better. That being said, i feel like Dipo has a lot more room for growth and could be better than beal in a couple years.

What I think is that Noel has a ton more value and Philly would get much better offers.

On topic, it's Beal and by enough that it doesn't really require much thought.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Beal for sure. I like me some Dipo though, but Beal is very very good.

Its weird because Oladipo is better OVERALL but Beal is The Better Player. SO that doesnt even make sense and my head is hurting now.

Like for real think about it.

Oladipo is better at Defending
Oladipo is better at Rebounding
Oladipo is a better ball handler
Oladipo is a better passer.
Oladipo is the better Athlete

But we all agree Beal is better (Including me)

We're comparing two 'shooting' guards here, isn't the skill of shooting a notable emission on your list? It would make sense that the player who is the much better shooter/floor spacer would be more valuable.

And you forgot bball IQ. Beal has an overall better bball IQ, better feel for the game, he knows how to attack the holes of a defense by playing off the ball.

Oladipo is a very versatile role player but not particularly great in any one area.Whereas Beal has above average/elite skills in more valuable areas (3pt shooting, off-ball play) that make him suited to become a high level starter. And it's not like Beal is a slouch of an athlete or defender, he's fine in all those areas.
