Hey Smitty (or other readers), quick question:
Utah recently signed Quincy Ford to a deal with some partly guaranteed money. That seems like an odd choice, since we still have a full roster and there's virtually no chance Ford makes it.
I know the Pleiss dump put us ever so slightly under the floor...is Ford's guarantee just a way of getting to that point? Or is he just an intriguing guy who had leverage to get some cash? Or is there something else at play here?
bbinsiders still has
Signed Quincy Ford to a three-year, partially-guaranteed $2,498,982 contract (TBD).
Quincy Ford ($543,471 — guarantee TBD)
The paid lets say 25-200k, but in return they locked him up for 3 years at the absolute minimum and fully unguaranteed. Philly used to do this all the time, where you give a guy who is unlikley to make a roster anywhere a chunk of money big enough to buy off his upside. Meanwhile, a guy who might make 100k over the next 4 years gets it right then which is huge. {Not an exaggeration for the dleague--
The new salary levels will be $19,500 (B-Level) and $26,000 (A-Level) and the salary cap will rise to $209,000 also.

You do occasionally have some teams willing to pay a guy they plan on cutting a small guarantee like 25k to get them into their dleague system even without any exclusive rights, to get a closer.
