Contract Battle Noah vs. Dwight

Post#1 » by Jwduff » Mon Aug 29, 2016 9:27 pm

Have seen a good amount of these this summer and found this one interesting. Both have health issues and are roughly the same age
Dwight Howard: 30 years old, 3yrs/$70.5M
Joakim Noah: 31 years old, 4yrs/$72M

I take Howard, think he's the better player still, one less year of a commitment.

I've got Noah at coin flip odds to be a devastating contract because of injury half way through his contract.

This is Dwight and I can't see how it's close. He's still a good player.

You have to tell people whether voting for one means that player has the better or worse contract. Personally I take Dwight every day.

Dwight has been better the last couple of seasons.

If Noah is healthy and back to 2014, it's him in a landslide. But I don't see it.

yeah I am a big fan of Noah and desperately want him to be good again, but I just think his body can't hold up and that contract is so risky thinking you are going to get four productive and healthy years out of him.

It's Dwight and not close. I mean Dwight and Horford were a dead heat. Surely no one thinks Noah and Horford are?

if were playing the "if" game, if Dwight is healthy, its him in a complete landslide. Dwight took role players to the NBA finals. Noah hasnt done anything close to that

Leaving aside injuries, I don't think Noah has ever had a better single season than Dwight. It's not remotely close even if Dwight's making 6-7 million more per annum.

I think Dwight has a good contract. Even on a bad day he's better than current Noah on a great day. Noah has one of the all time worst deals. Noah will be 32 in February. 32 year olds don't get less injured.

Dwight has been better for the last couple always.

I was thinking of posting Noah v. Mozgov which would be much closer.

Noah hasnt been decent in awhile. Guy cant even make layups anymore.

His FG% from 0-3 ft from the basket

2015: 51.5%
2016: 43.9%

from 3-10 ft

2015: 36.0%
2016: 19.2%

TS%
2015: 48.2%
2016: 40.6%

I'll chime in to add that it is Howard by a large margin. He's still a good player. Noah is now an aging role player who might not hold up for half of that deal.

I will freely admit that any of my opinions on Noah (or any toolsy, fundamental, defensive big who passes well) should be taken with a grain of salt because I'm a huge Noah stan. Ditto Marc Gasol, Horford, Millsap, et al.

+1, that would actually be a discussion worth having. This is just silly imo. The OP says "they both have health issues," but that is really disingenuous. Howard played 71 games last year, starting in every one and averaging 32 mpg. Noah played 29, started 2, and averaged 22 mpg. Dwight has every indication of still being a healthy human being capable of playing basketball at a fairly high level for years to come, Noah most certainly does not.

This is Dwight very easily. Even now, he's one of the better centers in the league. IMO, Noah would probably be best used as a reserve with minutes restrictions.
