Any idea/word what Washington will do with Otto Porter Jr?

Post#1 » by eathb_au » Sun Jan 22, 2017 1:34 am

He's playing good basketball this season and will almost assuredly get given a max contract from a team. This however would hurt Washington's cap space as they already have big money tied to other players. They'll be heading into the luxury tax unless they can make trades to clear room.

Would Washington consider trading him as his value is high? Or will they take the cap space hit?

I think Porter will get the max and Washington has no choice but to re-sign him. He is critical to their long term success and they would have no way to replace him if they let him go. I also doubt that the Wizards could get enough in a trade to make a move worth while.

Wiz will match his. Max. OP is having a career year and is still young. Only 23 I think. Wiz have been playing much better last month and he has been a big contributor. I don't see them trading him unless they know they can't resign him.

He'll be resigned. Any offer will be matched.

They will resign him, max if needed. He's ranked in top 20 for rpm and rpm wins.

everybody has said it but they should sign him to a max deal or match any offer sheet.....which would likely be a max deal.

The OP was a pretty good post, but he's posted here for seven years, and I can recall some pretty solid years 2013-2014 that I would characterize as the career years for earthb_au.

I can't see Porter getting less than the max.

I never though Otto would actually be good. One of those top picks that you assume we're a bust because he took a few years to show anything, but the wiz really have a solid 1-3 now, it'd be nice to see them get a young center to throw in the mix.

All these posts about Exum being a bust and I can't help but think about the path to success of a guy like Porter.

Depends on what he wants. If he wants max money for 5 years, and the Wizards don't want to give it, then they just match a 4 year deal with smaller raises. That's why a lot of times they agree to a rookie extension just below the max.

I think they keep him. I think they are fine with Mahinmi and Gortat at center.

If Ibaka doesn't resign, I could easily see Orlando offering a full max that Washington will be dumb not to match.

Honestly I think he receives several max offers.
PM me if you can help a brotha finally get an AVI.

What about Oubre, i would like to see him in Denver. Any reasonable offers that don't include Harris, Mudiay, Murray, Jokic?

Otto is 100% getting the max from DC, with pleasure. The goal is to have Otto shift to a stretch 4 role as he gets older, and have Oubre grow into the starting 3.

Sorry to spoil the dreams of Brooklyn.

How far apart would a Nurkic/Oubre swap be?

I feel like Oubre has more value but would Nurkic/Faried for Oubre/Mahinmi be too much?

I would pay not to get Mahinmi in that deal...He has 4 years on his contract, and it's not good one..But if some other team would take him, i wouldn't mind Nurkic Oubre swap..
