Who exactly is rushing to sign in la once we get cap space and what makes us a better destination than the billions of other teams w cap space? Randle and clarkson need to go, but not for a one year rental.
Because we have alot of incentive to actually be somewhat decent next year.
1) If we keep our pick this year, that means the 2018 pick will be fully unprotected. In the worse case scenario, if our team has little to no improvement in overall standings, we're going to be giving up a valuable draft pick for absolutely nothing. A big L for us.
2) A crappy team isn't going to be attractive to FAs, especially one that would be the joke of losing an invaluable asset. At least if we show that we're trying to be competitive in the West, there is some hope. Showing that you're at least trying to make the playoffs is provides more reward than folding next year. Also, losing a pick in the 12-16 range hurts alot less than potentially losing one in the top 5.
3) It would be nice to actually have a starting caliber 5. As nice as Zubac is, he's not nearly ready enough to be playing extended minutes on a competitive team. Lopez for all of his faults, is a damn good offensive player with at least decent defense. The guy can flat out score, be it the pick and roll, in the post or even stretching the floor. He moves very well without the basketball and knows when to pass. He is far better than anything we're giving out at the moment, and at only 28 years old, the utility that we gain from him now (and possibly for the next 5 years) is likely better than anything we can get from Randle and Clarkson, if they were to stay in their current roles.
Your points don't even make sense. So we give up what little talent we have to get a slightly better record? How does that work? And then we hit a home run in fa like we already have??? And we get one year of Lopez when zubac will likely be better than him in three years?
I dont see how I can dumb it down any further. If you dont see Lopez as an improvement for Mosgov+Randle+Clarkson then that's on you. To each his own. But clearly its not as moot as you believe it is.
